A basement drain had become restricted over time and I had been looking for and even scheduling plumbing co.'s to solve the issue for a few weeks. The costs and attitudes have varied enormously. One co. arrived and then claimed a reasonably priced and advertised clearing didn't apply to my particular case, despite specifically discussing it before the visit. Then, without much discussion they wanted to perform a pressure wash that started at an absurd $1,500. To view and snake would be almost $500! As a customer with a relatively small job that would take about half an hour, I'm greatly offended by the behavior of the companies that think it's acceptable to gouge. Sewer Squad on the other hand were totally professional and fair. The tech., Kahdeem, did all I could expect and worked hard to finally established a flow in the drain. I'm waiting for the camera inspection to verify what I expect was enough, at least for now.
Unfortunately, the main drain pipe is well clogged and about half open after the snaking. The fix requires replacing the trap and following few feet and re-routing of the washing machine outflow past the trap, not into it, which it is currently. The est. for this is over $3,400! which I cannot in any way justify. The job could take no more than a day and a half and with new pipe and concrete costing no more than $150, there's no way I can see that much cost being anywhere near fair. Shop around is all I can say.
