When we first set foot in the show homes in the new community of Symons Gate we were impressed with the range of options and the general layouts and features of the models on display. The area is beautiful, set right on the North edge of the city overlooking the Symons Valley Ranch and sprawling farmland beyond. The developer’s models were nice but too small for our tastes, another builder’s were big and beautiful, but a bit out of our price range. We then came upon Morrison, the baby bear to our Goldilocks. Their homes were spacious, practically designed, aesthetically pleasing, and sat in the middle of the three builders on the price spectrum. Circumstance and timing seemed opportune, thus began our journey into our new Morrison home. From the beginning we felt as though we were working with Morrison’s A-team, led by the professional, friendly, experienced, and expertly knowledgeable Kim in sales and supported by Erika and Kyler, whose experience and assistance we valued greatly. Lindsey in the selection studio and our site supervisor Jeremy were also exceptionally professional, personable, and adept at their respective roles. Sure we bought a structure and land, but we were equally sold on the reputation and cordiality of those we encountered during the process. As we submitted our initial down payment with the natural trepidation of first-time home buyers, we became increasingly confident that whatever issue, concern, or question we had, it would be dealt with promptly, professionally, and reasonably. This reassurance made what can be a huge strain on relationships, time, and finances an almost entirely smooth process where we got to relax and watch our dream become reality. Every time we visited the home (which we were free to visit whenever we desired – about every 2-3 days) something significant had been accomplished. Work progressed more rapidly than we had anticipated, but errors were few, and the quality of craftsmanship was consistently high. Kim quoted us nine months and the house was delivered in nine months, no delays, no problems. During the entire construction period we had one difference with Morrison regarding the placement of a set of light switches. The drawings were a little obscure in this particular instance which had us believe the switches were in one place and the builder believe they were in a slightly different location. Because a change order would run us about $200 at this point, we had a brief correspondence with the design studio and ended up splitting the cost of the electrical move, which we considered a reasonable outcome. Morrison staff did their best to foresee and address any issues, large and small, before we brought them up, and were honest about the 80/20 rule, i.e. they will find approximately 80 percent of the issues before possession and we will likely locate the other 20 percent after possession. They created a login ID for us to use their portal/website to log any issues we have and promptly scheduled ‘trades days’ when the issues would be fixed, making it easy to record and communicate concerns. We didn’t have to ask or badger them for clear deadlines; they created their own schedule and stuck to it. We are now about a month into our new home, and while the house is approximately 2300 square feet, it might as well be a mansion to us. We see it as Japanese castle on the outside, French Bistro on the main level, and Nordic cabin in the living areas upstairs. We were actually surprised at how accurately our vision became a reality. While we can only speak our story, our experience with Morrison Homes was nothing less than exceptional and in a business where there are often corners to be cut and inflated prices to be extorted, we came away feeling that Morrison Homes was a fair, professional, and above all, honourable business. We love our new home, and highly recommend Kim, her sales team, and the Morrison Homes family if and when you are in the market for a new home.
