My 112 year fir floors had just been repaired and refinished at great expense but since the household furnishings were all removed, I thought it was a good time to paint the interior walls. I met with the estimator of Fresh Paint who assured me that my floors would be protected during the painting and added the following comment to the project scope - "Brand new fir floors throughout ** Be very careful as they are a softer wood that scratches easily**" When the painters paper was removed I was horrified to see many scratches and gouges on my livingroom floor and very a large scratch and gouge where my stove had been pulled out in order to paint behind it, even though I had provided RAM board to protect the floor. At first I received great sympathy and apologies from the FreshPaint GM when he viewed the floors. Shortly afterwards, I received a phone call saying that I, a senior with a ruptured shoulder tendon, must have done the damage myself. Even so, Freshpaint offered to have the painter fix my floors "Free of charge", as my floor restorers estimate to re-coat was not acceptable to them. I had not realized that Fresh Paint sub-contracted out the Painting. The end result was a discount of $150 from the sub-contracted Painter and $150 from Fresh Paint which they considered "an acceptable solution". Acceptable to who I ask? Unfortunately the stress of this was overwhelming, the victim blaming too much. I had to move on. I cannot afford to repair the damage done by Freshpaint, nor should I have to. Hard lesson learned. My advice - find out first whose is actually doing the painting and talk to them directly.

I first met Magnus of Arbutus Sundecks when he came out to look at my very large, very old and rotten deck. I found him extremely knowledgeable and thorough when he examined it. Magnus explained what was needed in detail and suggested things I would not even have known to think of. He made regular visits as the work progressed and made sure I had no questions or concerns. The crew were amazing and cheerful, always stopping to answer a question if I had one. I LOVE my deck. It's stunning. This was far by, the easiest and least stressful reno I have ever gone through. I highly recommend them.
