This is the second time Ive hired Travis from Ajax Roofing. This is, hands down, the best roofing company around. His crew are very well coordinated, efficient and professional. The work looks great and if you ever have an issue, like a shingle blowing off in a wind storm, he stands by his work. He repaired my old roof a couple of times, no charge.

I contracted Consumers Choice to replace ALL the windows in my home back in the fall of 2009 - a little more than 7 years ago. I spent $20,000 to get top-notch product and service. For the most part, I'm happy with the windows -except one of them. The bay window, which is just 3 windows framed together, is leaking where the windows join. I'm currently renovating the room where this window is and the only reason that I discovered it is that the wall underneath is damp and covered in black mold. Obviously it's been leaking for years, probably since day one. When this window was being installed, I noticed that the installer had broken the existing window sill while removing the old window. He just laid it back in place and then installed the window over top of it. I didn't think much of it at the time because the windows are warrantied. However, Consumers Choice now tells me that the warranty if for the window itself and not the installation. They offered to have one of their incompetent installers come by to see if some caulking will fix it - for $150 minimum charge! No thanks, I'll fix it myself. I don't recommend this Company.

Dear Mike and Ana we’re sorry to hear you are having issues with 1 of your windows. We have left messages for you at the numbers we have on file and are still waiting for a return call. Unfortunately, as indicated on our warranty, contract and Window Wise quality assurance program, caulking is a wear and tear item and is not covered under warranty outside of the 1st year. Much like brakes or oil in your car, it wears out over time. We need to come out and inspect the window to identify if the problem is due to anything other than caulking. If the problem is due to caulking, there would be a charge to recaulk as discussed. If the problem is from something with the window or installation, Consumer’s Choice will be more than happy to look after it. Please call us back to discuss the situation further.

My window contractor hired these guys to do an energy assessment as part of their deal with me. In a nutshell, here's how it should work: You get an energy assessment, you make improvements to your house's energy efficiency (new windows, doors, insulation, air leaks etc.), you get a second assessment to take inventory of the work you've done and the assessor reports back to the ECO-energy program. After 90 days , you receive a grant cheque from the government reimbursing you for a portion of what you spent. My second assessment was done Nov 13, 2010. It is now Feb 28, 2011. I just called National Resources Canada to find out what's going on with my cheque and they say that "The EnerGUY" has not submitted the second assessment to them. I called the EnerGUY and they say that they have no record of a second assessment ever being done. The girl on the phone was very helpful... she said she would forward my complaint to "Sean" and could offer no other information. When I asked, "who is Sean?" she said he's the guy that takes care of these kind of complaints (like it happens all the time). So... after investing $30,000 in new windows, doors, etc, I may be out of luck for my grant money (which is a sizable amount) because the program ends in March of 2011(tomorrow)and it takes 90 days for the government to process it. I won't even get into how unprofessional the actual assessment was - it should suffice to say that the guy didn't know how to use his equipment and lacked knowledge of the science behind it. Update and Rebuttal to The Energuy's Response Below: They did work with National Resources Canada to straighten out my file (eventually) and I'm told that I can expect my grant to come in the next 60 to 90 days. Contrary to the reason given in the Energuy's response: I did not have a "First Evaluation" done by another company. Perhaps the previous owner of my home did, I don't know. Regardless, if that is something of importance to them, they should have looked into it as I'm sure that it is not a rare situation to find a home that has already been through this process by a previous owner. They mention that this was resolved by "hard work and dedication". It seemed to me that trying to get answers directly from "Sean" or "Big Mike" (who apparently is the boss and is only known to the employees as "Big Mike") wasn't getting me anywhere. They did not return my calls. I contacted National Resources Canada and they began a formal investigation. I stand by my review. This company does not deserve your business.

I stand by my team. We resolved this situation and have had the file processed to get the homeowner their deserved government grants.

I had just bought my home. The previous owner had left lots of firewood in the basement, but to look at the inside of the fireplace, you could tell that it had never been used - which I found odd for a 20 year old home. The fire-bricks and mortar were still white. I tried lighting a fire. It worked well for about 15 minutes and then the smoke backed up into the house. I thought that I should have it inspected. I called Magic Touch and they were able to send one of their guys out on short notice. The woman on the phone was very courteous and accommodating. When their technician showed up, he was very polite and friendly. He explained every step of the job to me. It was raining outside, so he swept the chimney from the inside. He pushed his brush up the chimney from the fireplace opening, adding 5-foot sections at a time. He said that it was very dirty because the brush wasn't travelling very well, yet, I didn't see any soot or debris come down. He pushed until he couldn't move it anymore and said that he felt his brush hit the chimney cap. I watched him pull out 20 feet of brush (my chimney looks to be about 25 to 30 feet from the fireplace to the cap). I gave him the benefit of the doubt and he assured me that he could see all the way up to the top where there was light was coming in. I tried lighting a fire after he left and it was worse than ever. None of the smoke was passing through them chimney. I called them back. Again, the woman on the phone was very accommodating, professional and apologetic. They sent another technician over the next day. He actually went on the roof and found that the previous owner had wrapped fine window screen material around the cap to keep out pests. It was clogged with ashes. The fireplace works great now, but I feel that they should have been more thorough, especially for the dangers involved (fire, smoke, carbon monoxide, etc). No harm done though. As for price, I found them very reasonable. It's not an easy job to do, very dirty, and it was done for only $135. I would still recommend them, problems aside, just because of their courteous service.

Thank you for the feedback Mike & Ana. I'm sorry our Technician missed the plugged screen on the first visit. He definitely should have noticed that. The day after the second Technician was out to your home, he took the first Tech aside and reminded him that in our business we have to be very careful not to overlook situations such as this. I'm sorry it happened, but it also gave us an opportunity for what we refer to as a "teachable moment".

Kindest regards,
Marc

I had just purchased my home. The previous owner had replaced the lower roof (a small section of roof over the living room and garage). Travis was able to match the color and style of this small roof exactly. His crew didn't use this newer roof as a thoroughfare to the upper roof, which would have been much easier for them. Instead, they went directly from the ground to the upper roof to avoid damaging the lower roof. They began work at 2pm and were done the entire job by 6pm (amazing). In the last hour, the crew went around the property with magnetic nail pickers and leaf blowers. They left left it cleaner than it was before they began. I asked one of them to remove some old Christmas lights on the upper portion of the house since I don't have a ladder tall enough - he did at no extra cost. As for price, they were the most expensive out of four estimates by a couple hundred dollars, but Travis presented himself as the most professional out of them all so we went with his company. I highly recommend Ajax Roofing.

We found their sales representative, Allan, to be very friendly and knowledgeable. He really took the time to go over his product line and help us to select what was best for us and our home. We settled on a fair price for the replacement of all our home's windows, 16 in total. He worked hard for the sale and even threw in a few extras to clinch the deal. Our windows are due to be installed within the next couple weeks. I hope that we don't experience the same scheduling problems that some of the reviews on this site complain about. I will update my review as the job progresses.

Please find our response to the above review.

The installation is booked for mid-November. We are in contact and keeping the customers updated regarding their order.

It is a fact that our delivery schedule is “stretched” at this time of year and especially considering the overwhelming general response from customers regarding the provincial and federal government rebates, the home improvement tax credit program, and the harmonized tax slated for next year, which will increase the contract price.

For over 30 years, our organization has prided itself on not jeopardizing our quality for quantity. We could, as many of our competitors do, use subcontractors to install our products. We only use our own dedicated Window Wise certified installation crews.

Under normal circumstances, there is a manageable spike in the installation demands in the autumn, but together with the circumstances mentioned above, there has been higher than normal absenteeism of installers with flu-like symptoms. This has caused some last minute unavoidable scheduling modifications.

The company has a strict policy concerning any staff members showing flu-like symptoms being in contact with our customers, in keeping with our H1N1 flu pandemic strategy policy.

Although some minor delays resulted, we will not jeopardize our high quality standards and we are confident that upon completion of the installation, the customers will submit a complimentary review and will want to refer us to their friends and neighbours.

Yours respectfully,

R.J. (Ron) Share – General Sales Manager
