Dealing with Pella is, by far, the worst experience we have had with a company. Ever. Our first point of contact with Pella, the salesperson, thoroughly impressed us. After that, it was a hellish 10-month descent into endless delays, six separate cancelled installation dates, shabby communications and sloppy installation. When our custom-made door was finally installed, we were so grateful that we actually sent a thank you note. That was before the door handle fell off and we noticed the lock did not work. There were also gaps on the perimeter seals, due to poor measurement-taking. There was a gerrymandered piece of wood connecting the door to the frame that occasionally fell off. And -- lest I forget -- the screen that accompanied the product that finally arrived was ripped. It took an additional three months for a replacement to arrive, filling out our 10-month ordeal. Throughout this time the installation co-ordinator was unresponsive and frequently failed to return voice mail messages. Total bill: $2,897 half still pending. We would not, under any circumstances, recommend this company to anyone. Ever.

Our recent experience with GMM Decks is -- by far -- the best experience we have ever had with Homestars-recommended craftsmen. We had read the positive reviews of Vitaliis professionalism on this website. We examined GMMs own website and saw examples of his beautiful work. So, naturally our expectations were very high. And yet, Vitalii exceeded all of them. The key task was to remove an aging, 3rd floor, south-facing deck on the back of our Toronto semi and build a new one in its place. Vitalii visited us at our home twice to ensure that we were crystal clear on what we wanted. And what we wanted was a bit complicated: three different types of wood, a healthy stretch of aluminium railing; a curved privacy fence on one side, a stylish divider with our neighbours on the other, plus space for some mood lighting and, finally, a storage box. A smaller, 2nd floor deck was less complicated. Vitalii was incredibly hard-working and clearly set the pace for his very capable team. He was also as a great communicator throughout the project, politely and patiently answering every single question we had. He showed great respect for our property, both inside and out. And when the project was complete, he left the site spotless. Vitalii and his team have completely transformed our 3rd floor deck into a very special, very beautiful spot, one in which we expect to spend years of enjoyment. Vitalii is a top professional. Glen has a reassuring, straight up approach, keeps you briefed on what he's doing and works very efficiently, getting a lot done in a short period of time. He's a problem solver and really impressed us with how he sorted out a better, quieter configuration for our washer/dryer. We've already booked him for another job!
