***UPDATE***
I made a complaint about this company on Homestars before, back in October 2010 regarding our awful experience with this company. I must say that judging by some of the reviews on this site, they must have their store manager writing rave reviews, not actually dealing with customer service issues.
In response to their response to my Homestars review- "Our store only offers Basic Washer & Dryer installation. This situation required a certified plumber which we do not provide."
A) It WAS a basic washer & dryer installation, the dryer just needed to be configured to vent out the side of the unit- when I called Maytag about this, they told me that the supplier (distributor) did this, not the manufacturer, or the consumer. I made it very CLEAR with the salesman that this had to be done and his response was- "yes, we can do that."
B) Regarding the "certified plumber" comment. The issue with this poor installation had nothing to do with plumbing. That is aside from the fact that your goon delivery men took a part of the drain pipe with them when they left our home, therefore not connecting the plumbing drain properly AND causing me to have to go to Home Depot to pick up the same part that came with the unit. I'm pretty sure my plumber friends would laugh if they were called to a job to connect a drain pipe and two supply hoses...
To further caution fellow Homestars users, I'd like to provide full disclosure on how Canadian Appliance Source dealt with my Better Business Bureau complaint.
I should also add that CAS didn't even respond to the BBB, here is a quote out of my case (this is BBB writing- not mine!)-
11/22/2010 No Response received from Business on 2nd Notice Dec 15/10 - company advised they will reply shortly. fd
Dec 13/10 - called 416-782-5900 and was put on hold for 10 mins. Have sent email to naiomi@ and sales@canadianappliancesource.ca. fd
I've made my complaint clear here on Homestars, here is their BBB suggested resolution to the same complaint (once they finally responded to the BBB)-
01/06/2011 Receive Business Response We are sorry to hear about your story. We have no way of knowing if parts were taken. We deliver all parts. Out of good faith we will give you $50.
Thank you
HERE IS MY RESPONSE-
01/07/2011 Consumer Satisfied- with Letter (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)
We accept the act of good faith in response to our poor customer service experience with Canadian Appliance Source.
HOWEVER- AFTER THREE WEEKS- NO REFUND WAS ISSUED, SO-
01/25/2011 Received Consumer Rebuttal We have yet to receive our $50 from Canadian Appliance Source. As far as I'm concerned, this case should be reopened.
RESPONSE FROM CAS-
01/26/2011 Received Business' Rebuttal Response We will refund you the 59 for delivery.
MY RESPONSE-
01/27/2011 Consumer rejects business' final offer (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
We accepted your offer of $50 on 01/07/2011. After almost three weeks we have yet to receive this "offer of good faith." Until we receive the money, I am unwilling to consider our case resolved. Once the money has been received, I will gladly close the case.
RESPONSE FROM CAS-
01/28/2011 Received Business' Rebuttal Response We removed the appliances for free. 5 business days is an estimated time, as stated on the web site. We still had a two man team come to your house and drop the unit off so a $59 charge is in order. We can not take responsibility for damages incured in the home as stated on the invoice.
MY RESPONSE-
01/31/2011 Consumer rejects business' final offer (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
So you're renegging the offer of a refund now, hillarious. The customer service provided by this company is appalling and I strongly caution anyone considering doing business. I do not except this response from the business and thus, my BBB complaint stands.
Needless to say, sounds like Homestars user Peter in Toronto and I should be sharing awful customer service tales of CAS over beer! ;-)
***ORIGINAL HOMESTARS POSTING***
Due to their reasonable price, my wife and I ordered a washer/dryer unit from this company. The salesman assured me that the unit would be delivered within 5 business days. Before purchasing it, I confirmed that the unit would be installed a certain way. We were unsatisfied with this company in the following ways:
- the unit was delivered 4 days late.
- the unit was not installed properly (not as agreed with the salesman) and was actually installed against the manufacturers specifications- unit not leveled, drain form part missing, etc. the "installers" were clearly delivery men and, therefore, not qualified to install appliances (let alone a light bulb).
- the installers damaged our home (see image of scratched floor).
- the installers took parts of the old washer with them that were needed to install the new one and ALSO took parts of the new washer necessary for installation. (due to this I had to purchase additional parts at Home Depot)
- when we asked to speak to the manager, we were told "he's not in until tomorrow" for 4 straight days. we asked to speak with the owner and were told "he refuses to deal with customer service". when we finally did speak with the manager, he failed to adequately address our customer service/satisfaction complaints.
I'm probably forgetting something.... Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend Canadian Appliance Source to anyone. The $100 you might save on an appliance is NOT worth the headaches and awful customer service experience.
