1/10

I originally hired this company on the reviews of this site, but now Beg to differ. We have a 15,500 square Foot driveway and parking lot. It was last sealed in 2009 by a different company that did a Great job, over three years the sealing faded slowly and evenly. Asphalt Care and David originally came for a quote, offered a two year guarantee in writing. We agreed on a price and it took Asphalt care a few calls to set a firm date, I was ok with this since I wasn't in a rush. The patch repairs he did appeared good, the sealer appeared fine initially, after a few months we noticed the sealing appeared to fade. 10 months after the sealant was applied we noticed a pattern in the colour of the asphalt like a bad paint job. We obtained some expert opinions and on the appearance of the asphalt and they all said it appears the sealer was not applied properly. And when we had the asphalt sealed in 2009 by a different company it did not look at all like it did after Asphalt Care applied the sealant. I looked at my invoice which indicates a 2 year guarantee. I emailed David at Asphalt Care. For over 1 week there was no response, I called him directly and let him know the situation and said I would email him directly the picture of the appearance now of the asphalt. It took David almost another week to reply with a long winded story. Then saying the guarantee applies to some thing else now. He offered to reseal the driveway at a discounted rate. Why would I pay Asphalt Care again if the sealer they applied appeared to not be correct to begin with? Like I mentioned earlier, our driveway was first sealed in 2009 and did not look at all as the pictures explain/nor in which this company is explaining why.

Company Response

Hello Paul. Just read your review. I am surprise on what you said in this review based on our last conversation . I thought we were clear on the bases on why the outcome of your driveway sealer.
As I told you on several occasions that my workmanship had nothing to do with the esthetic outcome of your driveway. It was the type of asphalt driveway you have laid down
I explained to you as best as I could and based on our conversation you said okay you're satisfied with what I said to you. I guess I was wrong.
I also offered you a discounted price for another application in order to remove some of the visual spray motion marks. If it wasn’t for that heavy stone mix type of driveway you have, the sealer would of evened out better..

Well Paul All I have to say to you is that you are the very first complaint that I've had in over 25 years and the first one in over four years since being on HOME STARS

One would have to wonder and BEG to see how is this possible considering based on all our 10 out 10 reviews and 3 years number #1 in our trade..

Well we are about to find out, what exactly happened and why the outcome of your driveway results.

I would like to start off saying that based on the opinions that you got from outside sources do not validate unless they actually understand the business and physically do this . Because if they did they would totally understand what I'm about to say.

I also sealed a similar size driveway last year in Midland Ontario near you within the same time . I was referred to my client from the road construction group that do all the municipal roads up in your area. I also explained to her the same as I explained to you that because of your driveway surface texture the color in the sealer wouldn't last as long, but the actual active ingredient which is Asphalt cement which protects the Asphalt will still be in the asphalt for years.

She has also hired us back to come back this year to seal her driveway once again.
She has also been approached this year by the Road construction group engineers that referred her to us and said that the Asphalt Sealer that we used on her driveway was a very good product and also agreed that it would require another Application in order for driveway to be and reaches maximum protection and Remove some of the signs of spray marks.
After the second application you'll never ever see the spray marks on your type of driveway ever again.

I would be more than happy to give you the address , name and number with her permission.

If I did not seal her driveway in the right the first time , she would've not called me back and not get that wonderful remark from the road engineers that referred her to us.

I also remembered when I was there you mentioned that you also have a complaint with the driveway contractors on the way they paved your driveway . Your driveway is in great shape and The type of Asphalt that they used is a heavy stone commercial mix which is the right type of asphalt choice considering where you live.

As I told you on several occasions that my workmanship had nothing to do with the esthetic outcome of your driveway. It was the type of asphalt driveway you have laid down

Let's go back a bit when we first started to seal your driveway. I told you that actual protective ingredient which is (asphalt cement ) will last anywhere from 2 to 3 years.
As for the esthetic part the black pigment in the sealer just the same providing the driveway surface is the right texture and what type of winters we could have or depends on how much you salt your driveway .

Also let’s not forget what type of winter we had. It was recorded one of the in worst winters in decades which had a huge impact on all asphalt surfaces.

You cannot expect any driveway sealer to last a long time with your type of stone paved driveway, and the type of winter we experienced. The real reason why people get their driveways sealed is for protecting their asphalt from the weather elements.

Here are a few Reasons that should help you understand more.

1- Our Sealer will last several years if your driveway is paved with standard Asphalt which shows signs of a smooth texture finish .

IN this case your driveway is paved with a ruff finish which has more stone then asphalt which is good in the country which is where you are , but not so good for asphalt sealers. It will ware usually allot sooner than your standard average time.

Note:
This is only for the color part of the sealer. Not the actual protecting ingredient which is asphalt cement. The Asphalt cement in our sealer stays in the asphalt from 2 to 3 years which is what really protects the driveway. Not the color. The color is to compliment the sealer which is to make driveways look nice and dark

2- Our asphalt sealer will perform at its best if your driveways does not get plowed aggressively which usually leaves a scraped scratchy surface marks.

Not sure if you contract your driveway for plowing but I'm assuming it is because of the size.

3 - Raw salt . If you abuse the driveway with over salting the driveway, the asphalt sealer will dull out quick.

4- Weather. We'll we all know what type of winter we just had. It was recorded one of the most damaging winters ever to all roads and parking lots and driveways.
It was also named what you call the 100 year storm. Which only comes then

Not to mention ice quake .Never heard of it till this winter.

So Paul If we did not have this what you call the 100 year winter storm
Or if your driveway had more asphalt then stone , your driveway would of been more darker and would of blended nicely .

With all the information and details I provided I hope this clarifies your Driveway Esthetic issues
I STAND BEHIND MY WORK 100 % ,
So if you would like for us to come back and seal your driveway at a discounted price, I will be more than happy to.
Thank you once again for your business and hope to be continuing our services to you.

Take care and GOD BLESS .
