I was quoted $110 all in over the phone to have my ducts cleaned. Two guys showed up and after being in my house for under 5 minutes one guy, 'Samy', told me that my humidifier had been incorrectly installed and was creating excess moisture and black mold in my windows. They also said that my furnace wasn't running properly and needed to be cleaned as well as a few other items. I told him to write everything down and I would discuss with my husband and get back to them. He said that the work had to be done right away as it was a health risk to my family. I told him that I wasn't prepared to pay for any additional services that day and Samy said that it was a serious issue that required immediate attention. I told him that myself and my 3 small children had an appointment in the afternoon and couldn't stick around for the work to be done as we had to leave the house and he said the work wouldn't take long, it needed to be done and I had to decide right away. I was feeling completely intimidated and overwhelmed at this point and instead of kicking the men out of my house, which would have been the wise decision, I decided to say 'fine' and avoid a confrontation. A couple minutes later I went back to Samy and said that I would rather deal with the company that I purchased the humidifier and furnace from and I didn't want him to do the work - my last attempt to get them out of my house. He said that it was too late to change my mind and I had no choice. I ended up having the original installer look at the work completed by Total Duct Cleaning and Samy had made up the entire story as the humidifier never needed to be moved in the first place, in addition TDC left large open holes in my duct work, they moved the humidifier to a place where it didn't fit and used duct tape to try to hide the mess they made. They charged me over $1200, and when I questioned specific services that I had paid for they end up admitting that they hadn't even done some of the services that they had charged me for. I have made several calls to the company to resolve these issues and they do not return my phone calls and if someone happens to pick up the phone they transfer me around and say the manager/supervisor is not available and the person that I am talking to (i.e. 'George') doesn't have the authority to do anything about the situation. I know that I should have listened to my instincts AND done the research first... I have recently learned that this company scores an "F" with the Better Business Bureau as a result of multiple complaints that they refuse to respond to and/or resolve. BEWARE!
