JR - Downtown Toronto

After contacting about a half-dozen roofing companies, we selected Canadian Roofing to re-roof our hundred year old, three storey Victorian semi-detached home in downtown Toronto. Jason let us know how they were going to do the job, and Steve and the crew did their work conscientiously. They were quick to deal with any issues we had as the job progressed, and cleaned-up thoroughly at the end of each day. The skylight replacement was a last-minute decision and we got the last one in stock. When the workers opened the carton, they noticed a small scratch on the glass and warned us about it. We had to make a quick decision whether to go ahead with it or replace the old skylight and wait weeks for a new one. Anxious to get the job done without a second visit, we went with the scratched skylight. Later Jason was instrumental in getting Velux to send us a free blind as compensation for accepting the scratched skylight. We had the feeling that the company valued us as customers, and happily recommend them.

We recently had vinyl shutters installed on our front windows by New Image Shutters & Blinds. Ivano listened to our concerns and made useful suggestions about styles and features. He proved to be personable and knowledgeable, and provided us with a handsome set of new shutters that have been admired by the neighbours. We are happy to recommend Ivano and New Image Shutters & Blinds.

We recently had a wooden balcony at the back of our house replaced by European Design & General Construction. Edgar listened to our concerns and made useful suggestions. He proved to be a personable, dependable worker who provided us with a well-constructed and attractive new balcony, much admired by our neighbours. We are happy to recommend Edgar and European Design & General Construction.

We recently had some windows and vinyl siding installed by Majesticon. Dan, the sales representative, was very professional and spent a lot of time listening to our concerns and making suggestions. He also introduced us to his installer, Chris. While some of the other companies quoting on the job were quick to point out all the difficulties, Chris simply said he would be able to work something out, and he did. Chris proved to be a very personable, dependable, "old school" installer who took pride in his work, and we are happy to recommend Majesticon.

For a while, we had a couple of intermittent leaks in our third floor ceiling. The crew from The Roof Whisperer spent about an hour trying to track down and repair the sources of these leaks. The next time it rained, it turned out that the larger leak had been fixed, but the smaller one was still there. They returned promptly and discovered and fixed its likely source. That was about a month ago, and so far both areas are still dry.

The fence and gate around our carport was recently damaged by a City of Toronto garbage truck. As usual, we got estimates from several companies, and then chose to have the damaged sections replaced by Lundy. After discussing our requirements with Shaun, the work was started a few weeks later. Following two days of hard work by Ade and Carlos, we now have a beautiful new fence and gate. Both Ade and Carlos were happy to make a number of adjustments to meet our wishes, and we would certainly recommend Lundy to our friends.

We have a twenty-five year old Velux roof window that although still working, developed a side-to-side crack on the inner pane of glass. Hoping to simply replace the unit, we contacted several top-recommended skylight companies, only to discover that our model is no longer available, and we would either have to go with a slightly smaller unit (and lose some light), or enlarge the roof opening (with the possibility of having to cut another rafter). Ron was the one who suggested an easier, less disruptive, and cheaper fix. He could get a new lens fabricated locally and simply replace the old one, instead of replacing the entire roof window. When I also inquired about getting a blind, he suggested that I simply order one directly from Velux myself, as they are easy to install and I would save the cost of another visit. Ron is very personable and efficient, and we would certainly recommend him and his company for any skylight work.

We lost a shingle and had some very intermittent leakage. These people were working on a neighbour's roof a few doors away and were able to replace our missing shingle and do some checking and caulking.All in all a good experience, and I would certainly consider them when it comes time to do the whole roof.

Just had our 30-year old furnace and water heater replaced by A1 A/C & Heating. We selected them based on a recommendation from a neighbour, and after comparing quotes from four companies. The salesman, Gord, gave good advice, and I was particularly pleased that he recommended that we stick with a simple 'natural draft' water heater, rather than the more elaborate power-vent or tankless models. The job was completed promptly, and the crew was professional. Although they were a little reluctant to grind the furnace vent holes through the fieldstone foundation instead of above it, they did not make an issue of it and the job was completed exactly as originally planned. Karen, the receptionist, phoned a few days latter to check that everything was okay, and Gord came to inspect the work the following week.

We needed a custom raised-seam curved ("mansard") metal roof on a new porch, along with a rubberized membrane on the flat part, and new eavestroughing. Bill of Canadian Roofing responded to all our concerns, and both he and the three crews were considerate and professional. I'm glad we selected this company, and would definitely consider using them again.
