Recently purchased a home with tank from Ontario consumers in it. As a contractor and home inspector I noted the significant rust around the intake and the venting into an unlined chimney which you could see through the mortar cracks. The lack of a gas tag on it also left me quite concerned as to who actually installed this setup and why it was in such rough shape.
I called and expressed my concerns and they sent a tech out to look at it. He agreed that the rust was an issue and dismissed my concerns about the chimney and lack of a gas tag.
I waited a couple days to let them get back to me on a solution. I had to call them and tried to find out how we can get a proper tank that isn't a safety concern. I was told that if I wanted a proper tank installed that I would have to buy out the rest of the ten year contract. The buyout was $1200 dollars. In addition to that I would have to pay more to have a new one installed. The actual price to buy the exact same tank brand new is $580.
We have had the home for two weeks and I'm still waiting for them to call me back with a solution. (They said they were going to call me back a week ago)
Extremely disappointed in the service and more so the lack of hot water. It has been two weeks since our first contact and we still don't have a solution in sight. It has become a joke in our basement with all of our friends, family and contractors.
If they ever come to your door. DO NOT get coerced into signing a contract with this company. This has been the most disappointing part of our new home. Shame on Ontario consumers for not resolving an UNSAFE and potentially DEADLY issue.
Oh, and Ontario Consumers, call me back like you promised last week.
