I found Knotty's on the internet and found their Butcher Block calculator to be really easy to understand. You can see the impact on your cost, of different types of wood, size and thickness, and whether you choose e.g. edge vs. face grain and your edge profile. Knotty's staff in the office, April and Tristan, were helpful both by email and by phone. Then I visited showroom to see what the wood types look like with different stains. Tristan was really helpful and patient with my questions. During the measurement appointment, George brought me a piece of wood with 3 different stain alternatives, so I could see what the colours look like in my kitchen, which was a huge help. As you can see, it was a really large-size sample, not a little 2x2 square like you'd get with other countertop samples. On installation day, George and his team were quick, yet careful and accurate. They had no trouble installing over Ikea base cabinets (which can be an issue for some countertop installers). George even took the time to cover up the new counter with pieces of cardboard I had around, to keep it protected while the rest of the reno was finished. Buying from Knotty's was a really good experience and I will be back for future work!

I feel so fortunate to have found BML Installers through Homestars. In my first communications with them, they were very clear about pricing, what dates they were available and what was needed to be complete in order for the installation to take place. They were completely non-judgemental about my design choices. During the installation, they were good communicators, checking with me where I wanted handles, or making excellent suggestions for how to make the installation better. They were extremely professional and even broke up the Ikea boxes, to make it easier for me to recycle the cardboard. If you want to install an Ikea kitchen, you will be in great hands with Bohdan and Leo.

Carolyn was cleaning for us, post-reno. She did a fabulous job. e.g. I wasn't sure our hardwood floor was ever going to look clean again. She really surprised me by getting it cleaner than I ever imagined. My kids were thrilled when they saw the floor, after so many months of looking destroyed, looking good again. When I asked her, she had great suggestions for cleaning products to clean tough messes. Plus she was punctual, friendly and reassuring. I'm so glad I chose Hire a Maid.

This is the 2nd time we've used Victorious for carpet installation. The first time was 11 years ago, when we moved in and carpeted the basement. The quality of the carpet and the gold underpad in resisting mould (in case of leaks) as well as the amazing customer service and installation from our experience last time ensured that I didn't even consider anyone else this time around. This time, we added carpet in the living room, the stairscase and the entire 2nd floor. Mark is a great communicator and replies right away and keeps you in the loop at all times. He comes to show you the carpet colours on site so you can see how it will look in your location. The installation team, Jason and Ian, worked incredibly hard and the finished product looks like it's always been there, despite all the tricky corners around stair spindles and in an awkward closet. The installation team was both friendly and professional, and I felt they were looking after my new carpet as well as if it was their own. In terms of the carpet itself, it feels so nice and soft, and now I love sitting on the stairs! Mark followed up to make sure everything went well. I recommend Victorious to anyone without reservation.

We've used Canada Waterproofers several times before and I would recommend them to anyone. From my first interaction with Slava 5 years ago, through to this one, they have proven themselves each time knowledgeable, punctual and trustworthy. Clearly, they care about the quality of their work. And finally, they are nice friendly people to have in your home. Slava even sent me pictures of the work as it happened, which was really interesting to see, so I got to see the roots that had cracked the sewer pipe and then the new pvc sewer going in and then the cleaned up finished floor. Here's my review, below, from 5 years before, so you can see how when a company doesn't gouge you but instead has nice smart people who do great work at fair prices, they win a loyal customer for the long haul. That first visit was free, but I remembered them for future plumbing work and now this time for drain replacement work. "Canada Waterproofers was the 4th company to come by our place to assess leaking in our basement. The previous visitors had suggested it might be a problem with our drains or foundation, both of which would entail costly repairs. After hearing my background of what we knew so far, in just minutes, Slava identified the real source of the problem, shining a flashlight into our furnace room and pointing out what no one else had noticed, that our furnace was leaking! When I was stunned at how quickly he'd figured it out, Slava mentioned that before he even knocked on the door, he'd looked at how close our gutters are to our neighbours' gutters and decided that water getting to the foundations was an unlikely cause of our problem, and so he was already investigating other possible sources. He also pointed out a tiny particle floating in the water, running west along the back wall toward my closet (where I'd thought the leak was). It was so clever and efficient that it reminded me of Sherlock Holmes explaining how he solved a mystery! I asked him how much we owed him and he laughed and said it was our free assessment. Wow! I would definitely call Canada Waterproofers if I ever needed waterproofing in the future, or recommend them to anyone else who needed it."
