Gates and Fencing Project I met Danny from Well Done Carpentry when he came by to look over my back yard gate and supporting fencing project. I told him that I wanted to do something different and unique and not just put up another quickly constructed standard wooden gate and fence slapped together in a two day job. Unlike the other companies that came to look at the job, Danny, on the other hand, was interested in my drawings and said that he would do the job and gave me an estimate the same day. Later he told me that the job appealed to his artistic side. As you can see by the pictures, the gate and fence is quite different. The job took approximately two and a half days of work done over a three week period as Danny was doing work on other sites while the concrete the 6 x 6 posts were set in cured. Once that was done Danny then started to work on the unique gate which was a creative challenge for an artistic skilled carpenter. The end result was very impressive. Once the gates were up the unique looking fencing (I wanted it to look like siding) went up easily and quickly. In addition, Danny fitted both gates with top quality heavy duty gate latches and hinges. The new gates and fencing looked great. Danny’s carpentry skills delivered within time and budget and the new gates and fencing have enhanced my property immensely, both in value and enjoyment. John G., Etobicoke, Ontario.

I first heard about Churchville Contracting while I was completing a landscaping project for my front garden. I had hired Humber Nurseries to plant the trees, shrubs and flowers I purchased from them. During a conversation with one of their landscapers I mentioned that my next project was to renovate the deck in the backyard. I told him that I wanted to do something different and unique and not put up another slapped together three day cedar deck job. He suggested I discuss the job with Jimmy Williams of Churchville Contracting. He told me that Jimmy and his crew of master carpenters have done several unique and difficult pergolas for Humber customers and these types of jobs are their forte. When I first met Jimmy I was surprised by his youthful appearance but he was very knowledgeable about decks, carpentry and his business. His quote for the work was not the best price I received but I was comfortable with selecting him because he encouraged my original design and even suggested ways to make it even more attractive and unique without adding to the cost. The others who quoted on the job tried to discourage me from anything out of the ordinary and basically wanted to slap together a standard deck. The project took 6 days to complete. Although extra work came up, we were able to stay on budget. Jimmy and his crew wanted to incorporate some extra details into the design, not as an upsell, but simply because they take pride in their work. Day one was to take the old deck rails, fascia and floor boards apart and away. On day two of the work, I knew I had made a very good decision to hire Churchville Contracting. The original deal was to re-build the deck using the existing joists and perhaps replacing one if it was compromised. Jimmy and his crew not only replaced several rotten joists but they also replaced the main cross beam of three 2 by 10’s nailed together and also added 2 additional joists. The result was that the joists were now 12 inches apart instead of the original 16 inches with a brand new and stronger cross beam. Jimmy did this because he said that he could not build on any platform that wasn’t stable and he didn’t charge me for the extra work. This platform was now as stable as they come. Once the platform was completed the work moved quickly and smoothly. The deck railing was a unique “X” shaped pattern and Jimmy and his crew incorporated a nice change to round out the corners of the deck and railing which enhanced the architectural look of the deck. They also hid the hardware on the deck using special screws and hid the rail fasteners by putting dowels over top. They finished up by putting in new stairs and covered the sides of the deck with cedar fascia. The finished product was more than I had expected or hoped for. It looked brand new and it looked great. Jimmy and his crew consistently delivered above and beyond my expectations. I can honestly say that the best decision I made this year was to hire Churchville Contracting to turn my battered old cedar deck into an architectural piece which has enhanced my property immensely, both in value and enjoyment.
