I hired this company to do some exterior painting. We had just installed a new stone patio beside the house. When they came to quote I made it clear they needed to fully cover the patio. They offered to not charge tax if I paid cash, maybe that should have been a red flag. I insisted on a quote including hst which they did provide. I paid a $1000 deposit and reminded them they needed to cover the patio, they specifically noted this on the quote so I has hopeful. They showed up on time but started working without fully covering the stone and had their tools and supplies on our teak patio table. I told the guys on site that they needed to cover everything and not to put stuff on the table. I texted Mary to tell her that they needed to protect everything or they would have to go. Everything got covered up and seemed to be going well so I went to get a haircut and when I got back they were gone. The owner of the company claimed I told them to go which I did not. Im not sure if it was a language barrier or they didnt read my text correctly, when I eventually got him on the phone he seemed to want to have a negotiation. He told me he couldnt come back until next year. They sent back 60% of my deposit and kept the rest.
