2/10

My father is a senior and lives in a Retirement Home in London, Ontario. He moved into a new room within the same retirement home, and we had purchased new furniture for his new room. All of his old furniture that we were not keeping, we required junk removal to come and take all of it, so that it would be easier for us to complete his move. I called 1-800-Got-Junk, and I had scheduled a junk removal date for Saturday June 1st. When i initially scheduled the junk removal, I spoke to a guy on the phone, who works in the contact centre, and I asked about the cost, the appointment window and anything else I could ask before the junk was to be removed. I expressed that my father had very little furniture to remove (queen bed frame, mattress and box spring, dresser and a lounge chair). And the guy gave me a minimum quote, but also stated that final price can be negotiated depending on how much space the furniture takes up in the junk bin that the company provides. I had specifically asked if the organization of the furniture, and taking apart certain pieces of furniture to save space would help with the cost to be lower, seeing as my dad has a budget that he works with monthly living in a retirement home. And the agent I spoke with said that, I can ask these questions and make these requests on the day of the appointment, and that space in the junk bin does matter on what the final cost is. So i said that is great, and I will work with the junk removal employees on the day of the appointment. On the day of the appointment, my scheduled window was supposed to be anywhere between 11am-1pm, which was great, because that was the time frame that we were getting all the moving done. The junk removal showed up closer to the end of the scheduled window. They came in to the room to assess the furniture that was to be to be picked up. And without even asking us about taking apart the furniture, without consulting us with maximizing the space of the junk bin, right off the bat they told me that 500$ will be your price. And i was completely flabbergasted. I was in shock. The junk removal employees literally took only 10 minutes to remove the furniture. I specifically took apart the bed frame. And i was paying attention to how they were organizing the furniture into the junk bin. They literally had the worst organization, they didn't even try to maximize the space of the bin. They just placed everything in the bin, purposely used the entire bin. I asked if they could organize it in a way where it would be more compact. And they flat out told me, that doesn't matter. How they organize it in the truck has no effect on the price. Taking apart furniture has no effect on the final price. the junk that they picked up, could have actually only taken up less that 1/3 of the truck, but instead the way they did it, it took up the entire bin. At this point I was very frustrated, because I just wanted my father to have a seamless and stress free experience, and it was everything but that. I told him the price, I told him how they packed everything I showed him the photos, and he was very upset and he felt very taking advantage of. And the junk employees didn't seem to care at all at how they handled the appointment. I was very nice to them from start to finish. I could have been very upset, but I chose not to. I am extremely disappointed with the service. I asked if they could call their manager to ask if anything can be done about the price. And the manager pretty much said, to bad the price is not going to change. The agent gave me 50$ off as a courtesy, but I felt like that was a complete gut punch. I even asked the junk removers if they could make better use of the space of the bin and better organize the furniture, and they flat out told me that it was not possible, and that it would not change anything about the price. They were not willing to work with me at all. This experience gave me a very sour outlook on the company. I really hope that other people who use 1-800-got junk have better experiences than i did, because I felt it was very unprofessional.
