I asked the owner of GOOB BOYS (Robert) – ASPHALT-INTERLOCK- SEALING to come and give me an estimate to clean up our interlocking brick driveway and patio. We had a lot of weeds between the bricks and I told him that it had not been sealed in the ten years that we had owned the house. He spent about 25minutes looking at the work to be done He told me that it would be $1300.00. This was $250.00 more than other quotes that I had been given but he told me that other contractors do not do the quality work that he does so I went with him. One of the things that his service description states is (Put in polymeric sand BETWEEN bricks and wet sand down) but the truth is that the sand is all over the top of the bricks in many places and has dried white like concrete on top of the bricks. The workmanship was non-existent there are layers of concrete like sand just plastered all over the place and left to harden, on the door step, window sill and some ended up in the pool. There are marks on my fence from the negligent use of the power washer. I phoned him June 20th and asked him to come back because the work looked terrible. He said his truck has broken down. He came on Saturday June 22nd and stood only at the end of the driveway and said that it was because the driveway had not been sealed for a long time and he complained about the weeds and that the bricks had soaked up the sealer but this was just an excuse because he knew the condition of our property before he quoted me $1300.00. He refused to do anything about it except ask for another $250 more to re-seal it. I disagreed with him since I had already paid him the agreed amount. We sent a registered letter asking him to fix the problem or refund our money in full. He did not respond to it. After placing a notice on his website that we would be placing a negative comment on HOMESTARS Website if he did not contact us by Thursday July 04, 2013, he phoned us around 9:00pm on July 02, 2013. He said that he would come on July 3rd (following day) and apply more sealer, I told him that the problem was not the sealer it was the concrete on top of the bricks. I told him that I needed to know when he was coming so I could be home. He said “I don’t think you have to be there”, he would look by himself. This did not make sense to me how can any contractor with any sense of decency suggest coming on to my property without the complainant being there to discuss the problems. My wife wanted to be sure he is really coming on the following day and suggested phoning him back to get some assurance (time, email confirmation etc…..) of his presence. We both were on the speaker phone, and asked the same question again, but he said his truck has broken down, therefore no time can be given. Since we have lost all credibility with him, my wife took one step further and asked him if he can send us an email confirmation about his presence on the following day. Then he started screaming at us saying repeatedly “do not push me, forget it. Do what you have to do’, then hung up on us. I would not recommend “Good Boys” to anyone. This is not a reputable, decent outfit where you can receive value for the money you spent. The owner of this company has a terrible aggressive tone and he doesn’t realize he has been very rude to his client. This person became a complete different character since I started calling him and complaining about the work. When he came for the assessment, he sounded great, now I’m realizing it was really made up, the genuineness wasn’t there after the money was taken and when some lousy work was left behind.
