For years we have dealt with the sound of rats behind the walls of our finished basement in our semi-detached house. Every 6 months we had a different pest control company come in and drop poison in various places behind the walls. We stopped hearing the rats within a week or two after that, followed by the stench of rotting rats in unknown locations. The smell lingered for weeks. In May, we finally had had enough, so we called Joe at Snap. Unlike the others who would drop poison and then leave saying 'problem solved', Joe did a much thorough investigation. He asked very pointed questions about where the noise was coming from, and eventually cut a small hole in the drywall. Low and behold, Joe discovered a hole in the cement floor behind the wall. With a camera, he could track the hole, but only as far as the adjoining wall with our neighbor. Without access to their house, Joe filled our hole with cement and metal wire. He also left poison so that he could return and see if the problem was solved with the hole patch, or if there were other sources. Fast forward 6 months and Joe returned, as part of his original agreement to come at no extra charge for a few follow up visits. When he opened up the wall again which he had temporarily patched, he discussed no new droppings, and all the original bait still in place. No evidence of any new rats! For the record, we have not heard anything since Joe left, but he still insisted on coming to check. When he left, he said, "See you in the spring", honoring his commitment to ensure the job remains fulfilled properly. The original cost was a bit more than the "drop and run" guys who spent 10 minutes in my home compared to the hours Joe spent, but with the follow ups AND the job actually done properly and permanently as opposed to bandaid solutions, we got excellent value. We contacted the company in the morning and received a response within 2 hours. Our issues were with rats, and we would not hesitate to recommend them to others for this or other pest issues. They are honest, and most importantly we trusted the advice they provided about our rat issues. We hope not to need them in the future, but for any pest control issues, we'd call them first.

With two newborn babies, we decided to get an air quality test done in an old house we recently bought. After getting some water in the basement this summer, we wanted to be proactive to make sure there wasn't any mold in the walls or air. I called a couple different companies found on Homestars, but decided to go with Mold Services.ca after speaking with Kay. She gave a thorough explanation of the process, the costs, and told me that Ross could be as early as Monday morning (I called Friday afternoon). The price for the initial inspection and air testing was very reasonable compared with the others that I called. Since I only use contractors found through Homestars, I read the reviews and was confident that I made the right choice. I certainly did make the right choice. Ross arrived on time in an unmarked truck (this was important to me because I didn't want the neighborhood thinking I had a massive mold problem, especially since my call was preventative in nature). He took the time to first listen to my concerns before doing anything. Ross did his inspection thoroughly all the while explaining what he was doing and the different types of molds. Ross answered my numerous questions, was extremely patient, and didn't make me feel like he was in a rush to get to his next appointment. The following evening I got a call from Ross saying that the results from the air quality testing was very bad. In fact, he said it was the worst he had seen in four years. Despite that, he stayed on the phone with me to calm me down and explain that it wasn't the end of the world and could be fixed. He told me how to interpret the results and what he could do to make sure that the house was safe again. Because the results were no bad, Ross admitted that there was a chance that the sample was not correct. He told me that he would come first thing the next morning to do the tests again and see if the results were different. He arrived promptly at 8am as promised and took the time again to answer my questions and suggest possible reasons for the poor test results. I'm lucky that I used Ross' company for this testing because he did this as part of the original service offered and didn't try to sell me on any cleanup or remediation prematurely. Later in the day I got a call from Ross telling me that the new testing had come back and everything was perfectly normal. He was confident that these new tests were correct and that there clearly was an error with the first test. Right there Ross demonstrated a significant level of honesty that everyone should expect, but rarely receive. Ross knew I was in a panic, he had initial results that were very poor, and he knew that he likely could have sold me on a major remediation project costing a fortune - and I likely would have believed what he said because of my fear. With that said, Ross did none of those things. In fact, rather than charging me a penny more, he explained to me that he would be happy to help with the minor remediation needed at his standard fee for a day of work - but more importantly, he said that this job was something that I could do myself and save the money. Simply put, Ross is great at his job and has a lot of integrity. Throughout the process, Ross answered his phone every time I called even late in the evening. He responded to emails promptly and gave honest advice. I always research thoroughly before hiring anyone, so I will save you the time of calling anyone else and simply say that if you want honest, professional, and expert advice for any type of mold problem, Ross and Mold Services.ca is the only company to call. The key is honesty and that goes a long way these days.

What started as a minor job to add some plugs and lights turned into a full rewiring of our 100 year old house. Michael was honest and professional throughout and gave updates on the cost along the way. Since it was a relatively large job to re-wire our entire house, I asked that he keep me updated. He showed me open junction boxes behind the walls and showed me how unsafe the house was. Despite spending a lot more than we wanted to, I really think we got good value and would definitely use Michael and OM Depot again in the future.
