Not recommended for large or important projects
John and his team were friendly and responsive. Last year a very large window at the front of our house failed, so we found John on Homestars and he gave us a quote to replace the window. While doing the quoted John said that usually he does smaller jobs than this. This should have been my first red flag, but John assured me his team is well equipped to change the window. The day came to change the window and John and his team were friendly throughout the process. We paid John, gave him and his crew a tip, and they left. Within the first month of Johns job, we noticed a large crack in the glass. We dont have any children or pets and never go near the window. It is clear that pressure from the way the window was installed caused it to crack. Now the window had completely failed and is full of moisture. Before John came, we had a failed window with moisture trapped inside. After Johns work, we are worse off: the window is full of moisture AND there is a crack. Plus we are out almost $2,000. After the window cracked I immediately sent John photos, but he said there is nothing he could do. We are now saving up to replace the window again. I want to restate that John and his team were friendly and polite while doing their work. I just wish John had been more transparent about his inexperience. He mentioned that this was a bigger job than he usually does, but told us he could do the job perfectly. Perhaps he should have pointed us to someone more experienced instead of trying to do a job beyond his skill level to generate extra revenue. Ive read the other reviews for John and Homestars, and it seems like he is a great choice for smaller windows, apartments, etc. But for a large, important window in a new single family home, I recommend looking elsewhere.
