In February of 2012 we commenced Phase 2 of the project --- demolition of the old porch and construction of a new sunroom. Sandra introduced me to Vaughan who would be the on-site foreman for the job. Work got underway and very quickly the old porch was gone except for the roof that was supported by jacks as per our plan to maintain the look and feel of the house. The steel piles were drilled for the foundation and a form was built for the concrete pad which would become the floor. The concrete was poured and allowed to cure. Next, the framing was done and the room started to take shape. About this time, Sandra and I had a wonderful day outing to select windows, brick, and flooring. I was so appreciative to have Sandra’s knowledge and expertise in helping me select these important elements for the new room. Work continued with the closing in of the walls and the application of polyurethane foam insulation. A desired design feature of the room was a vaulted ceiling which would be constructed of tongue-and-grove wood stained to match the colour of the trim in the rest of the home. The low height of the room and the desire to have a light/fan fixture made the vaulted ceiling even more necessary. The ceiling is stunning and has exceeded my expectations! We had talked about doing a brick veneer, but Sandra and I had difficulty sourcing this as everyone seemed to prefer stone veneer now. As I wanted the exterior to match the rest of the home, stone was not an option and so we opted for using real bricks that had to be cut and laid individually. The brick layers did a fantastic job of matching the look of the addition with the rest of the house. The windows I chose with Sandra were Pella with venetian blinds built into the glass. As these were special order, they took a bit longer to manufacture and put a delay on the schedule. It was well worth the wait as the windows are perfect! For comfort, the floor has in-floor heating underneath a beautiful Maple hardwood floor. In addition a gas-stove in a brown enamel finish provides the heat. I do have the room wired for the possible addition of electric heaters in the future. The painting and trim work were all done by Sandra’s team and reflect their commitment to quality. The new sunroom is now a reality and is everything I dreamed it would be and more! I can enjoy the room all year and it has become a focal point of my home. The exterior of the room has exceeded my expectations in looking like it has always been part of the house. Sandra and her entire team were just wonderful to work with and I knew I was in good hands throughout the entire project. I have had a number of neighbours ask me who I had do my renovation and I tell them with pleasure that it was Sandra and her team at Lifetime Contractors. I would definitely use them again in the future and highly recommend them. They really do take care in what they do and I felt that they were designing and building a home that they would want to live in.
