Earlier this month, my heating furnace decided to stop working on a weekend. The blower fan would turn on, but the furnace would not ignite and eventually shut down. I called two furnace repair companies on a Sunday, but only Robin of Arctic Wolf Heating Inc. returned my call. He confirmed he would be able to come by later in the afternoon to take a look at the furnace. Upon arrival, he tested all the electrical components and ensured the fan motor was operating properly. The initial diagnosis suggested a faulty thermostat and a recommendation to replace it. In the meantime, Robin hooked up a temporary thermostat, tested the furnace three times to ensure it was functioning properly and scheduled a follow-up visit the following Friday to install the new thermostat I ordered from him. The day of his follow-up visit, Robin called to ask if he could defer his appointment. Calgary was going through a cold snap and other clients with more immediate and urgent heating problems required him to re-prioritize his schedule, which I agreed. The next day, the furnace decided to quit igniting again. Compounding the problem, Robin’s truck broke down and needed a new radiator. Robin called, was very apologetic and promised to find an alternate vehicle for the following day. The next day (Sunday), Robin called ahead to confirm he will be able to come check my furnace. Upon his arrival, he re-tested all the components, replaced the flame sensor that was past its warranty, ensured there was no blockage to the outside heating vents and installed my new thermostat. This time, Robin correctly determined that the furnace was not properly igniting because it was not getting enough air through the air intake pipe, re-oriented the pipe to increase the airflow and re-tested the furnace several times. All of this was done at no additional charge. The furnace is now working properly. If you are looking for a HVAC professional, someone who is knowledgeable, systematic, keeps you informed, and committed to making it right, Robin is your man.
