We've Given Up on ManorHouse after 6 months trying....
End of June, 6 Months after Delivery, this is my 2nd addition to my original review. I've given up!! The repair has never happened despite Manorhouse promises from Mike. We'll simply live with the damage. So far, both my daughter and a friend have bought expensive pieces from the same manufacturer but a different store because they liked ours, but we warned them away from Manorhouse. Following are my former reviews and I've attached a photo of the scratch. Earlier this week I submitted the following review with a much lower rating for Manorhouse. However, since then, Mike got back to me and said that without admitting liability, and for Customer Services reasons, they would take our new sideboard to be repaired at no charge to us. Thank you Mike, we appreciate the Customer Service. We've known all along that the damage could not possibly have happened after delivery, and now we know that Manorhouse will put things right. If dealing with Manorhouse, you need to be very very careful to protect yourself in case there is any problem. For us, all went smoothly up to delivery (other than Mike overcharged the sales tax on our handwritten bill, but Richard noticed and corrected it later on the computer). We ordered a $2700 wooden cabinet, 3' high and 7' long, to be made by Handstone. It's very well-made and beautiful!! I would have given Manorhouse excellent reviews, referrals, and more business from us. But Mike, who is in charge of "Customer Service", has blocked all that. If he gets back to us to correct the situation, I'll re-post. The cabinet was delivered close to noon just before a major storm was about to start. Jeff was pleasant and professional, he and his assistant (we found out later that he was Mike's son, the store manager) were careful and understandably quick to leave. The cabinet was wrapped in plastic, with a foam cover on top held firmly in place by tape. Jeff used an exacto knife to cut the tape across the top and the plastic around the body. We were delighted with the cabinet, signed for the delivery and they left. We were out for several hours, and at dinnertime put a lamp on the cabinet and turned it on. We were shocked to see a 3/4 inch nick in the top which wasn't visible without the light. It is small but in a prominent place and quite noticeable when the lamp is on. We knew that there was absolutely nothing possible we could have done to cause this -- we'd been out, no one else lives here or was here, and we had put nothing on the cabinet until the lamp. I immediately phoned Manorhouse -- Mike had left and I spoke with Richard who asked that I send photos. Then my husband remembered that the nick was just where Jeff had cut the tape with the exacto knife -- the bottom of the knife easily could have done the damage by accident, and in the dim light, Jeff would have never seen it. I called Richard back with this idea, and he asked that I include that explanation in my e-mail with the photos. Two visits to Manorhouse have resolved nothing. Mike is expert at stonewalling and turning things into our fault. What we asked is that it be repaired at Manorhouse expense -- Mike knows a good furniture repair guy, and the nick is small so wouldn't be an expensive repair. But Mike claims a few things: that Manorhouse isn't responsible because we signed off, that we should have checked it with a flashlight if the light was dim, that Jeff doesn't think he did it and we should have objected at the time if we didn't like how he used the exacto knife. Mike said they have a photo of our cabinet when it was wrapped, but when on the first visit I asked to see it, he refused and said it was his picture not mine, and on the second visit he refused again and said his son was on vacation and had it with him. Then Mike and Jeff showed us a smaller piece of furniture in the shipping room with NO tape over the top and said it is wrapped the same as ours!! That was the last straw for us, we left. So if you deal with Manorhouse, be sure to take detailed photos of your furniture at every step during delivery, and just make the delivery guys wait while you examine every inch of it with a flashlight before you sign off!!
