Purchase & installation of new Washer & Dryer
We met with and liked the salesman at Home Depot, he talked us into a wonderful pair of Maytag units with pedestals. It was cheaper than [another company], was in stock at the warehouse, agreed to delivery date, included delivery and setup, would haul away the old units etc etc. Everything looked great! THEN. Phone calls started - units were not available, they were not in stock, dates were given, additional calls came, dates change three times, ended up on a date when I wasn't available but my wife would be. Agreed and paid Home Depot extra $150 to make sure everything worked and put the units on the pedestals. First visit - they could not install as the old unit was attached to the taps! Seems workmen cannot unattach hoses from existing units, and my wife cannot. So they left. I came home from my trip, unattached the hoses, capped the taps ready for the next visit. The next visit involved a discussion on the side vent, which we asked fro when we bought the units, and as the "unit is set up for that" one would assume that meant we would be able to install it - well no it doesn't. In fact neither Home Depot nor Maytag/Westinghouse knew how to switch the unit from rear vent to side vent. So this time they added the pedestals and left. Finally, we got a handyman - not sure who he worked for, but he phoned and asked questions, picked up hoses and pipes and things from Rona (:-)) and came to the house, he diverted the vent, set it up with the pedestals correctly and connected the newly purchased longer hoses to the washer. Did not mention the fact tat the units are sold with standard hoses, despite being pushed with pedestals, which adds at least 12" to the host length. SO special longer hoses are required. All in all the experience with the final worker was great. The experiences with the store, with Home Depot help desk (in Atlanta) and with Westinghouse basically stunk. Talk about left and right hands. So many messages, so many calls, and all from someone selling what he could without selling a solution. Will not be doing a major purchase at HD nor would I recommend anyone do so, unless they are prepared for issues.
