I had a short circuit in basement pot lights. I thought it was the switch and since I saw a spark from there but replacing that did not work. Called Jafar to trouble shoot the problem and I was glad I did because he found the short in one of the pot lights and revealed that another was close to failing. He came back 2 days later and replaced all my pot lights with new LED pot lights. The old ones had been problematic for a while so happy to have the new energy efficient lights.

An outlet stopped working and a light would not turn on. I had checked the breaker which appeared OK. Jafar arrived as scheduled and troubleshooted both problems and repaired them within an hour.

About 16 years ago when I bought this house I had to get a new pool heater. This company was recommended to me by Metro Pools and I purchased the heater. They have been servicing it ever since. The heater is past end of life and last year is would not start. Halton Peel came out and we both knew it need replacing but with COVID you could not get a new one. So they rewired the heater and got it working for one more year. It started up again this summer but is problematic so now as planned I am gong to buy a new one from them. They have been a trusted partner for over 15 years.

We completely gutted our 45+ year old kitchen and entertained bids from 2 companies to come up with a design for our new kitchen. Pat Noddle was the designer we worked with at Kitchen Designers Plus and her professionalism won the bid. She was always the most prepared for our meetings and came up with many creative solutions for our challenges. We worked through multiple drafts of the design and settled on a project plan. However once the job started unexpected issues crop up as the always do when renovating an older house and Pat was always there to help with a design idea to solve the challenge. The cabinets are beautiful and the installation by their installer Johnny was incredible. He is a master carpenter and the care he puts into each mitre cut is amazing. He is also very creative in helping to solve issues created by unsqare walls in an older house. The most important characteristic of Kitchen Designers Plus is their committment to service. When we had problems with the general contractor we hired to support other aspects of the project, (demolition, painting, electrical), they stepped in to ensure the job got finished properly. This was not something they were obligated to do but shows their committment to getting the job done right. Thanks to Pat. John and Johnny for all their hard work! We also want to thank Elmwood Kitchens (Cabinet Manufactures) for their great work.

Kitchen Designers Plus spent a lot of time with us working on the design for the kitchen. This preparation minimizes the issues that crop up once the work starts. We also spent a lot of time designing the lighting for the kitchen, hiring a lighting designer and working with a large lighting retailer (Union Lighting) to get the lights to fulfill the design. This preparation and time (over 12 hours) made for a perfect outcome. Be prepared to spend time on the design!

We contracted with Nick to completely renovate our basement rec room turning it into a games room/home pub. I found Footprint construction on Homestars and called them because of the positive reviews on the website. If you read the reviews I did, you will pick up on two common notes regarding Footprint construction. The first is that they finish what they start, attending the job per schedule and consistently until completion. This was absolutely true in my case. It starts with them showing up for the first appointment to check out the job and delivering a quote on a timely basis. The second common thread is reference to their assistance in the design. I did not think I needed this when I first called them as I had pretty specific plans for my renovation drawn up. However, from the first meeting when Nick started asking questions about some of the details of the finishes I learned I needed a lot of help. When he returned to present the quotation he also came with a mock-up of the wainscot design almost to full scale. His preparation at the quoting stage really impressed me. Ironically we rejected the design for the wainscoting, gave him some feedback and he altered the design to what you now see in my basement. Custom designed and executed by Nick Van Egmond. This was just the beginning. He and Trevor made so many other design suggestions that really make the finished product stand out. The execution of the trim work was excellent. Nick did a lot of this himself and he truly is a master carpenter. The greatest strength that Nick brings to the table is his communication skills. This is reflected in his ability to draw out your desires into a finished design both literally and figuratively. It is also reflected in the daily understanding of where he and his crew will be, what they are scheduled to do and then, an end of the day progress report. I always knew where I stood regarding the progress of the job and what to expect to be done on a daily basis. Nick is also accountable for his trades. You should expect this from a general contractor but Nick delivers. He was trying out a new painter that did not work out very well but Nick ensured the finished product was up to his high standards. This is important. Trades can disappoint, people make mistakes, but the General Contractor is there to resolve any issues and "make it right" as Mike Holmes would say and Nick delivers on that promise. I ended up with a lot more custom elements in my basement renovation than I ever expected. It is a unique product and I am very proud of the result. Thanks to Nick, Trevor, their staff and team of subcontractors. I hope to work with them again.

I thought I had detailed plans for my renovation but there were a lot of little details I had overlooked that Nick helped co-ordinate for me. Details such as the style of knobs for the cupboards or types of door design. Try and make all these design choices in advance if you can or start working on them as soon as Nick or Trevor point you in the right direction. It will mitigate the stress.

Met them at the home show last winter and saw they were using the waterproofing techniques I needed. Booked them for an estimate for the first day the snow was gone and they showed up as promised. I did get two estimates which were priced comparable but went with Jagg because he provided more detail in his written estimate. I was clearer as to what he was going to do. With the wet summer their work schedule fell behind but they called to confirm they were coming and showed up the day promised. Every day thereafter they showed up on time. They were very careful to avoid making a mess. They had very little room to work & had to use my neighbours' yard but once they cleaned up you would never know they had done so. They even fixed my fence gate and sliding door to my sun room so they were better than when they arrived. Ask for the free basket of tomatoes. They were the best we ate all summer!

Once they exposed my foundation, we could see that the previoius owner had tried to repair the leak before. They hired the wrong company to do the work or tried themselves. Don't make this mistake. Hire Jagg!

Found Rideau Finishing from the Benjamin Moore website. www.benjaminmoore.ca Filled out their online form and Leonard Kelly called me the next business day for an appointment. First impressions are important and I liked that he showed up on time. His was 1 of 2 quotes I obtained. Both were comparable but Len's provided a fixed price for the considerable amount of wallpaper removal. He gave me a start date and again they showed up on schedule on the appointed day a trend which continued throughout the job. It had been a while since the new-to-us house had been painted and it required a lot of wall preparation. Len's stated process for for protecting my new hardwood floors and fixing all the plaster cracks was one of the reasons we chose him. They did an incredible job prepping the walls and ceilings. They kept to their schedule which had been promised to be an 8 to 10 day job. It did take 10 days because it turned out their were two layers of wallpaper and not one. This created a lot of extra wall preparation but they have made the house look brand new. A paintng project of this scale is a dusty job so be prepared to do a lot of cleaning. However Len's process did a lot to protect the floors and other areas of the house. He has a great crew, very friendly and easy to work with. A very positive experience.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Our house is 43 years old so it had a plaster finish coat on the walls. There was a lot of wall repairs necessary particularly after the wallpaper was removed. All the sanding that goes with these repais is very dusty so we had to do a lot of dusting and vacumming after the job. Not the painters fault, just part of the process so be prepared. We also moved precious items and as much clutter out of their way. This minimizes the chances of damage and gives them more room to work. More work for us but I think it made the job go faster.
