Extremely Dissatisfied What seemed like a straight forward renovation has turned into a disaster. I hired Empirical Builds to put back together my basement after I fully demolished it and had the external walls professionally waterproofed with waterproofing membrane, weeping tile and a sump pump. Their job was to drywall the ceiling and walls, lay vinyl flooring and then tile the entrance/kitchen area. I was going to have a shot of building the Ikea kitchen once they were done. It all went wrong when they lost the diagram of where all the electrical was in the ceiling for pot lights and smoke detectors. When it was time for the electrician to drill holes in the freshly painted ceiling, there were quite a few misses and Im left with holes in the ceiling. Thank goodness the electrician remembered the placement of an outlet that was buried behind the drywall! Despite this, I was waiting patiently as these were just cosmetic and I was assured that the guys of Empirical Builds wouldnt leave me hanging. Besides, they were supposed to come back to bring my receipt, fix my fence that they damaged with baseboards sticking out the back of their truck, as well as return the extra flooring they took without my permission. The lack of attention to basic details is very clear to anyone. The mountain of a problem has come when I discovered that they had cut out the water proofing membrane along the entire length of a wall because it got in their way when drywalling. The conversations about this were endless and I am dumbfounded that they decided to cut out what cost me thousands of dollars to have installed just months prior. Its pretty clear that they thought Id never find out about it. So now Im in a worse position where I have to demolish freshly laid tile and painted drywall, have the waterproofers break up the concrete.again, so that it can perform as required to keep the basement dry. Were looking at $8k to go backwards and my phone calls are going unanswered. It would be in their best interest to file a claim with their insurance, but unfortunately they have gone silent. Zero response to e-mails, text messages, voice messages and letting the phone ring through. Not to mention that this is a rental unit that is doing anything but bring in income. No, I DO NOT recommend using them for anything!
