REVIEW: MyShades, Doncaster Drive Thornhill Ontario After much deliberation, weve decided to post our experience with MyShades, authorized Hunter Douglas dealer in Thornhill. My husband and I planned a major refresh of our home of forty years. This was to include professional cleaning of existing window shades as well as replacement of existing fabric draperies in all bedrooms and living room/dining room. We did our research, found an authorized Hunter Douglas dealer and renewed our commitment to shop local. The repair and cleaning of one shade panel, and cleaning of an additional pair, was to be a test run with our chosen vendor/provider. Laura, the owner/operator of MyShades, assured that the simple repair required could be easily done, and that all three shades would be handled as an individual order, discrete from other customers. Laura, the owner operator, was aggressive in pushing back against our expressed wish to re-install the shades ourselves upon completion of work. Likewise when we discussed next steps in our refresh project, she continued to negate our capacity to remove and re-install our blinds, despite being told that we had done this successfully on other occasions. We do it without damage, never a complaint. We firmly declined her recommendation and left our shades for the requested repair and cleaning. The work was completed promptly and we returned to MyShades to collect our shades; again, we were urged to let them re-install. Again we firmly declined. A day later, we unpacked our freshly cleaned and repaired shades and were stunned to discover that the header on each of the three shades was scribed in black marker with our surname. Further, one panel had a small dab of black marker on the fabric just below the header. We phoned the operator promptly. Jay advised that we always mark them that way and went on to inform me that weve done it that way for almost forty years. You wont see it. I countered that marking a clients goods in any way was unsatisfactory and unprofessional. Take a picture was his patronizing response. We then contacted a major authorized Hunter Douglas cleaning source, recommended by Hunter Douglas and another authorized vendor, who confirmed that shades are NEVER marked prior to cleaning. Were dumbfounded. Forty years of home ownership and maintenance and weve never had a trade/service/vendor mark our goods for their own convenience. You wont see it is a rationale for we couldnt be bothered. Avoid this business. There are plenty of authorized dealers in the vicinity who wont bully and patronize you.

I was in my attic doing some electrical work when I noticed one of the web supports for the roof trust was badly twisted and had come away from the gusset I contacted K-SON Design & Management Services and Hooman agreed to come out and create a correction plan that would resolve the issue and return the structure back to its original design strength. My wife and I found Hooman to be very professional, responsive, with a vast knowledge on how best to approach this issue. He provided his expertise and a day later we had the plans to execute the correction. He is a pleasure to deal with and would defiantly reach out to him in the future should we need further work.

My wife and I had brand new Anderson patio doors installed in our home from Dundas Specialty Windows & Doors. The job was great we were very pleased. Unfortunately, despite all our precautions a slopy contractor damaged one of the doors while doing a large renovation for us. We called Dundas and they sent out Marcio their repair specialists. Due to weather conditions, you can not paint in the rain, it took a bit, until the weather cooperated with us. We are very pleased with the work, the quality and attention to detail that was afforded our issue. We would highly recommend Dundas as a company that not only did a great install but is willing to rectify issues that can happen afterwards. Thanks to Marcio, Stacey and the entire team at Dunas

We contracted with A & A Masonry to install a lime stone header and using the removed brick close up some old vents. Given the complexity of the work there were some issues. A & A Masonry stuck with us, corrected the work and did a fantastic job applying all of their expertise, care and respect to make the project great. I would like to give a special thanks to Libby, Joe, and Greg, and a nod to the stone master, and the brick masters Jonathan and his brother. We would not hesitate in using A&A again, and would highly recommend them to anyone looking to execute this type of work.

We hired Uniquehouse as part of a full kitchen connecting hall and powder room renovation to remove our old existing tile floors and replace them. After talking to a number of tiling professionals we found ourselves going back to Mark and Kate as our benchmark standard. Their professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail were obvious from the first time we met them. This was a large project for us and we put our faith in them and have been very pleased. Mark is a consummate craftsman, the work is exceptional, the professionalism fantastic, Mark’s thoughtfulness and attention to the smallest details are outstanding, and his knowledge of how to construct something to make it last is wonderful. We are thrilled with the end result, would have them back to do another project for us in a heartbeat We would highly recommend Uniquehouse to anyone looking for a tiling professional, or some of the other work that Uniquehouse specializes in.

t’s my pleasure to recommend Mersey Heating and Air Conditioning. When our AC died after almost twenty years, we called Mersey for a quote on a new unit, and then decided to opt for a new furnace as well. From the sales consultation with Charles, to the installation crews sent out to perform the necessary work, to Tanya and her associates at the management end, our experience was consistently positive. Our concerns were addressed and our home was respected. Communication at all levels was terrific, and the team took care to involve us in the process and honor our specific requests. I come from an engineering background and am very capable in expressing my needs as well as performing hands on work. Mersey delivered everything that was promised, in a timely, thoughtful and courteous fashion. Could not be happier.

As part of a kitchen refresh, my wife and I decided to replace our existing Corian counter tops with granite. We were aware of Marble Trend’s solid reputation and quickly found a slab that we liked. Sales experience was extremely positive. But who to install it? Marbled Trend strongly endorsed DEA Marble- Granite, Marble, Quartz, Natural Stone. The company had recently done work for a family member, and they were happy. Indeed, the job looked good. Accordingly, we contracted with DEA to fabricate and install our new countertops. The nightmare began. Sotari, one of the owner/operators, came to our home and spent ten minutes measuring our small but complicated kitchen with a tape measure. He wasn’t receptive to questions and input. I was so concerned by this speedy approach that I requested and paid for him to come back and re-measure. Same tape measure. And many complaints that the walls of our 35 year old house are not square- which of course no house is. Installation was difficult to arrange, as a result of a number of postponements on their end. Weekdays were not an option apparently; when we protested, the fabricator Sotari informed that we were a ‘small job’ and challenged me to come and remove my material from his shop if we were not happy. I wish I had I wish I could say that the wait was worth it. There were ¼ inch gaps between the countertops and walls. The under hangs were out between ¼ and ½ an inch on a run which is less than 4 feet. The fit was poor. Underneath supports were shored up with silicone pucks, which means that eventually the material will crack. The walls had been cut into. We chose to dump this substandard job and start afresh. We’ve repaired fairly extensive damage to our walls. We’re horrified to discover that the installer- Yanni- scored into our cabinetry with knife and level to make his mark, rather than use a pencil. This will also require repair. We chose to dump this substandard job and start afresh. This time around, we’ve sought out the fabricator first. The reviews are excellent, and the experience thus far is positive. Excellent communication from the sales person. And the measurement is done by a technician who brings specialized digitalizing equipment: he encouraged our questions and invited us to watch the process. Measuring took over two hours. A template was brought to our home a week later to check for accuracy. A shop visit is scheduled with the fabricator to determine optimal placement on our stone. Beware! Poor communication, out dated tools and methods, sloppy prep, careless workmanship, arrogance . Find your fabricator first. Do not go with this DAE unless you want to be treated very badly and have your job executed by individuals who don’t care.
