Relocation

Assisted Review

An assisted review is collected by a contractor on behalf of the homeowner after their work is completed. The homeowner must confirm the text of the review and may make any changes she or he deems appropriate. The homeowner then assigns the contractor a review score out of 10. Assisted reviews receive the same scrutiny as other reviews and must follow our review guidelines.

We hired Multicity Moving to relocate from Richmond Hill ON to Fort Myers FL. We would like to thank Mr Bonder the sales Manager. He was really helpful from the beginning to the end. We had accumulated a few stuff in our house over the years. Our shipment occupied almost the whole truck. but the pick was done by 4 movers. The same driver showed up at the other end. Same perfect service with red runners, no damages to the floor.

Our cost was about $7500 from door to door. I would definitly recommend Multicity Moving.

Thanks

Henry Larrson

Move from Toronto to Edmonton

We used this company based on the mainly positive reviews on this site.A huge mistake, as it turned out. They talk a great game and are very slick and professional and it all seems great - until it isn't. Dealing with the receptionist was easy and the estimates and pre-move service were all good. We paid extra to the company to pack our TV screens, piano and stereo equipment, because we were told that if we packed them ourselves the insurance would not cover any damage. On the day of the move, two pretty under-motivated guys turned up and spent the whole move complaining about everything and anything. They seemed to have no clue that they were supposed to pack the screens and ended up encasing them in cardboard, assuring us they would be fine, the piano was wrapped in blankets and the stereo stuff was put into regular boxes.
Upon arrival in Edmonton, the trouble really began. The company that was to deliver the items was supposed to call and give us 48 hours notice due to the condo regulations. We had made this perfectly clear. They called us in the morning saying they wanted to deliver that afternoon. We said this was impossible. The guy threw a sulk and then we didn't hear from them for days. It was impossible to get them on the phone. I phoned Multicity, who basically said that there was nothing they could do.
We eventually managed to get a delivery time and the movers arrived over an hour late, complaining bitterly about the condo regulations for shifting the items in and just about everything else. The moving guys themselves took no care in their work at all. Upon completion, after many smoke breaks, we were pressure to quickly sign the delivery acknowledgement form and then they were gone. We soon learned why.
One TV was smashed, the piano had two nasty gouges and several other items were damaged to varying degrees.
I immediately contacted Multicity, who basically shrugged, said our insurance didn't cover the damage, despite the fact that we had specifically paid extra for them to do the packing, and passed me on to their insurance person. I left multiple phone messages and emails and never received a single reply. We never heard from them again - which I am sure is what they count on in cases like this. Most people probably do not have the time or inclination to take these companies to court.
Do not be deceived! This company is very slick. They have a very professional face and everything is rose coloured until something goes wrong. At that point, the facade vanishes and you are left with the true nature of the business: A bunch of cowboys, just like every other dodgy mover you read about in the Star. They are just a more sophisticated variety. Buyer beware!

Move from London, ON to Montreal QC

On September 6, 2012, my furniture and boxes were delivered to my new apartment in Montreal, Quebec. Immediately when the furniture was unloaded, we could see that there was significant damage to almost every piece of furniture. The movers recognized this and also admitted that some of my furniture had not been protected with moving blankets as they lacked enough blankets at the pick-up location. Even the boxes that we had packed ourselves were torn or weathered which resulted in damage to items inside the boxes. The movers told me I would need to communicate with their claims office. The simple fact that some of my furniture was not properly protected with moving blankets shows that I was not provided all the services that I paid for and negligence occurred in handling my belongings.
I communicated with the claims agent on September 6, 2012, who replied the next day. The agent denied any responsibility (although the movers on site agreed that there were issues) and made the following two statements:
1. Basic insurance of 60 cents per article
2. deductible of $350
I mentioned to this agent in a subsequent email that the FAQ of their website states that their basic insurance is not 60 cents per article but 60 cents per pound (my move was charged at 4,340 lbs) and that the deductible was $250. It is reasonable to expect that a person who manages claims would have the correct information. The agent did not respond to these statements and instead diverted the issue to the missing card print. Since the agent mentioned in two different emails the wrong deductible and did not respond to my challenge of this figure, I consider this an attempt to deceive me as a client.

I responded to her email about the visa print and as another attempt to work in good faith with this agent I provided a scan of the front of my credit card. She immediately responded by saying there was nothing she could do and that she needed the official visa slip. There was no attempt to find a workable solution. Once again, this company showed no desire to work in good faith to arrive at a reasonable solution.

My recommendation is to stay away from this business and pay a bit extra to make sure your goods arrive in good condition.

Move

Moved from Montreal to Toronto. Definitely the most competitive price. Extremely professional job of packing and moving. Leslie, the moving consultant in the office was easily reachable and very on top of all the details of the arrangements. The movers were also excellent - very friendly and conscientious. Will use the company again in the future.

Moving

I've now moved twice with Multicity Moving. I’m not sure I would do it again, though I wouldn’t rule it out. For a move from Vancouver to Kitchener, they came in at almost $5500 less than the quoted price of another company that was recommended to me.

However, what leaves a bad taste in my mouth was that a bag was lost (worth about $300) and no responsibility was taken for it. Admittedly, had I paid for the more expensive and comprehensive insurance package, this would have been recouped. Instead, the deductible for the basic insurance was worth more than what was lost. I expect some damage to occur in a cross-country move, but a complete loss of a bag is less palatable. Multicity blamed the fact that they contracted out the pick up to a company in Vancouver and that it is their responsibility. Between the pick up and the time everything arrived (~1.5 months with storage time), that company had gone out of business. Since I dealt strictly with Multicity and never requested that it be contracted out, I'm a bit upset that Multicity says that if I want the bag recovered, I have to track down people from the now defunct company to see if they can look for it. The chances of that happening are about zero.

My point is that Multicity is cheap...way cheaper than pretty much everyone else. However, don't expect a ton of care from them. Losing a $300 bag is not such a big deal when saving thousands, but I can't say that I am overly eager to recommend them given how they handled the situation.

THank you Multicity

I would like to thank Multicity moving for their hard work they put into my relocation job from Toronto to Vancouver BC. From the beginning to the end it was awesome. I had about roughly 9000 lbs. They did a good job on packing my furniture, and handling the service from point A to point B. We had to wait about a month to take over our new house their. They accommodated our staff in their Delta office in BC. The delivery was quick, they provided the same number of movers as we had in Toronto. I had a great experience with Multicity.

I would consider moving with them again in the future.

Thanks,

Nancy
