Chimney restoration

They did a great job repairing my chimney. As everyone knows, it's so hard to find someone today who does great work. We've all heard the horror stories, but these guys are diligent and reasonably priced. They show up, are respectful and clean up when they are done. I would certainly recommend them to anyone looking for brick work.

Rebuilding collapsed basement foundation wall

My house is over 100 years old and the foundation in the basement is susceptible to crumbling if water gets into it. Shams rebuilt the wall with new footings, rebar and concrete blocks and did a lot of extra things that really helped prevent future water damage, including extra parging inside and patching an opening that looked like rodents had been trying to get in.
Shams is really easy to deal with, a nice person to know, good at answering calls and emails, and prices his work very reasonably. He works really hard even in the hottest weather. I will be having him back again, as will my neighbour.

Great job on our chimney. We recommend without reservation.

Shams and his team are very capable, professional, diligent, and meticulous. We are very satisfied with the work they did for our chimney. Shams was good answering calls and emails and he provided two quotes as requested and took the time to answer our questions properly.
Shams kept us in the loop on when work would start, and when work did begin he gave us regular updates. It's understandable that with chimney work we often wouldn't know what is up there until the scaffolding is set up. Shams showed us photos of what he saw and gave recommendations which we were good with, and at the end, provided photos again to show what was done plus feedback on other areas we should consider to take better care of the house.
What was most impressive was, while we were finishing discussions and things were already packed away, Shams saw one more issue that wasn't visible in our original photos but related to this job, he got out the ladder and the material again ,and went back up to the 2nd floor level to fix.
In summary, we found The Brick and Stone Guys to be an honest company that does quality work, is fair and easy to communicate with, and anyone looking to hire them can do so with confidence.

Stair rebuild/repair

We have old stone steps that were sinking but the porch seemed to be fine for the most part. The house is old so we were not looking to do a full rebuild or spend an exorbitant amount of money for something that may not be appreciated in the future. Surprisingly, this option was difficult to find because most people suggested a full rebuild with new materials etc. Unsurprisingly, this was always an expensive option.

Brick and Stone Guys offered a way more reasonable strategy to rebuild the steps and leave the rather solid porch and tuckpoint the cracked areas to extend the life of the steps and porch. This was the perfect solution for our situation. They worked around the existing plants and left no noticeable damage to the plants. The debris was cleaned up and there resulting job was probably better than the original! We got to keep the original stone which meant the look remained the same and they were able to piece everything back together.

They were also able to smartly manage a couple areas that were discovered to be somewhat problematic due to inferior methods previously used to construct the steps.

They also did some stone pathway tuckpointing to further extend the life of the pathway but that was not as big a win for us as these steps were.

We are extremely happy to have found Shams and his team to work on our stone projects around the house. We are happily hiring him again to do additional work in the future.

Chimney repair

Shams fixed my chimney and would have received a better review except for a couple of things.
1) Some garbage (leftover wood scraps and larger pieces) were left.
2) No chimney cap was installed. I noticed that there wasn't one installed after Shams left and reached out to him. He wrote that I declined the chimney cap but I pointed out that I wouldn't have declined only to follow up about it afterwards. So now I have to figure out a way to get to the top of the chimney to install a cap, which is quite difficult given the height. Or I hire someone to do it for a considerable amount.

It is unfortunate that the job finished unfinished as far as I'm concerned because the chimney repair looks good, except it needs a chimney cap.

Company Response

Hi Erez,

1) I am really sorry that the clean-up was not up to the mark. I and my team will definitely try to improve.
2) Unfortunately, your decision of having a rain cap (not a chimney cap, a new chimney cap is installed) on the flute tile was after we had wrapped up the work and disassembled a 30 feet scaffolding. If there was a way to use a ladder to install the rain cap, I would have considered it, however, because of the closeness of the fence and the tall trees, it is/was extremely unsafe and I have to consider the safety of myself and my crew. I really wish I could have reached a solution acceptable to you.
3) I am glad and satisfied that you like the work.

Thank You.
