We had Jay sand and stain the floors, put new hardwood in the kitchen, paint the place and put a new carpet in the bedroom. Now he subcontracts all the work out.
So, one guy removed our ceramic floor in our kitchen and removed the existing cabinets. He did well.
Another guy put a matching floor in the kitchen but there are gaps in the wood. I have to figure out how to fill them. But he sanded the maple floors and stained them. I asked him about conditioning the floor but he wouldnt do it as it was in his contract with Jay. Of course Jay didnt give
me the option. Sadly, that contractor disappeared and was replaced by another guy who completed the job.
HOWEVER, THE FLOOR WAS SUPPOSED TO BE SEALED BUT IT WASNT. JAY SAID THAT IT DIDNT NEED TO BE BUT IT DID ACCORDING TO THE SUPPLIER OF THE STAIN. IT MARKS VERY EASILY. THE SEALER IS EXPENSIVE LIKE $1000. I NOW HAVE TO SEAL IT MYSELF. THIS IS A BIG JOB WITH ALL THE FURNITURE IN PLACE. IT TAKES A WEEK TO DRY.
The carpet guy did an excellent job.
The painters job was a solid B . A nice guy but he misses spots. But it got done. Sadly, the paint comes off easily. It was supposed to be cleaned before painting.
Jay is a nice guy but not good with details so keep records. He has a lot on the go and forgets things. I made up detailed list of things to do, room by room. But that was a waste.of time.
So, we were able to do this renovation from Toronto. Jay was good at
following up.
I WISH THAT I HAD JUST REPLACED THE FLOOR , NOT REFINISHED IT.
I WOULD NEVER USE JAY AGAIN. HE CUTS CORNERS AND MISLEADS.
