Bathroom renovation distaster

Summit renovated two of my bathrooms completing work in July, 2019. I have delayed giving a review because I wanted to forget the whole experience but based on what I found today I feel I must provide a warning to anyone considering hiring this company.
Since the completion of the renovation I have been working to remedy damage caused by Summit contractors including repairs to my hardwood flooring, repairs to my wooden front doors, repair to my new tub and repairs to my finished basement which incurred water damage due to leaking pipes from Summit work. This has cost me thousands of dollars in repair costs not to mention the aggravation.
The issue that has pushed me over the line is that over the past couple of months I have noticed cracks in my bathroom drywall. I called a contractor to investigate. Today the contractor and I discovered that Summit did not tape the drywall joints. Of course now the walls are cracking at these locations.
Buyer beware. I’ll be happy if I help at least one potential buyer to seriously think about whether or not they wish to hire Summit Contractors.

Company Response

This is a rather unusual review for Summit Contractors. However, we find it a great opportunity for us to showcase to our potential clients and fellow contractors that as much as you pay full attention to the details of each project and do your best to outperform, you can still end up with an unjust review.

As the owner of Summit Contractors, who has a reputation of providing outstanding services to its clients gaining us numerous 10stars reviews, it is with mixed emotions that I am writing this respond since we have a claim of not being satisfied with a project. Yet, I need to share these evidence to protect my hard working and professional team who have always made me proud and made our clients rave about the team and what they have created. We have a reputation of being honest and fair and with all due respect to the owner of the review, we decided not to respond with a stereotype apologetic reply, but to share our point of view with honesty and integrity.

Luckily as a part of our procedure we take photos of every project and job site before, during and after we are done. We would like to invite you to review the pictures of this project as we are proud of the job we have done and the professional measures we have taken for this project to come up with outstanding results within the quote and timeline. These pictures talk for themselves in proving that many of the indicated points on this review are false.

Please find the link to the photos of this project below and also a copy of the original zero score submitted review that we’re writing in respond to:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1C3MTk3DzhFi1i-D8Jq6d-aOnxQXRNNL-?usp=sharing

In addition, I would like to point out the below regarding these photos relative to the comments made by the owner of the review:

1. The indication of the drywalls not being taped is FALSE. There are over 25 photos that show the drywalls have been carefully taped.
2. We gladly covered the claimed cost of the claimed damage to the bath tub although there was no evidence of the damage or invoice provided. (Proof provided in the pictures)
3. Claimed damages to the hardwoods and the door were minor scratches and we offered a free touch up, which was waived by the owner since he considered them minuscule.
4. The only claim that is close to an actual fact was a leak caused by the toilet valve failure which was taken care of immediately. (photo of the damage is provided and as mentioned it was fixed by us)
5. We trust that a zero score is unrealistic even when if the writer of the review is not fully satisfied with a job.
6. The owner of this review has never contacted us regarding any complaints or to ask for any kind of repairs since the completion of the project.
7. It is also indicated that thousands of dollars!!! were spent to fix these damages, yet he never contacted or claimed this damages, which is a highly unlikely behaviour when the claim is valid, specially after he had already been reimbursed for the bathtub immediately without any evidence. Can’t see why he wouldn’t communicate any other issue with us!

Given the evidence provided in the pictures from this project and the above details of the events as well as the unrealistic score, it seems to us that the writer of this review has been rather unkind about the service he has received from Summit Contractors. We trust in readers judgment to take this review with a more than a grain of salt!

Amazing Experience and End Result!!

I wanted to renovate my bathroom for years, but as a young female, it wasn't an exciting prospect to start inviting contractors over to have a look at my bathroom.
However, I saw that Summit had great reviews and decided to go for it - best decision.
They are so timely, and thoughtful. They think of every situation that could come up and make sure you make the right decision for what you are looking for.
The whole job was done in such an organized way, and they were so efficient. Would 100% RECOMMEND these guys. So so happy with the results.

Bathroom renovation in an old house

Mine is the sort of project that I suspect contractors have nightmares about. The complete gutting and renovation of a small cluttered bathroom in a 110-year-old house owned by a picky person who spends way too much time looking at home design magazines and websites. Not to mention the yappy little dog who insists on getting underfoot.

Fortunately, I chose Summit Contractors to do the work. Arash , along with his team of highly skilled tradesmen, was infinitely patient and absolutely meticulous about not exceeding his original cost estimate, even when his own costs of doing the work and buying the materials grew because of unexpected challenges that are inevitable with such an old house. For example, the extreme slope of the floor away from the direction of the bathtub drain necessitated the installation of an expensive drop-in tub. Even then, the cost to me did not go up.

They did a beautiful job waterproofing the bath/shower enclosure, installing all new high-end fixtures and custom-made vanity (with a gorgeous stone countertop), laying tiles (floor and shower) and painting, all while doing their best to protect the rest of my house. Arash was always easy to contact when questions arose (including evenings and weekends), and did everything possible to ensure I was happy with the results.

I've always been leery about hiring contractors, and my past experience hasn't always been good. However, with Summit, my concerns were completely allayed as these are among the most honest, capable, hard-working people I've ever dealt with.

Thanks Summit for going a long way toward restoring my trust in contractors!

Renovated 2 bathrooms and basement

Summit did an amazing job! They were very focused on making sure all aspects of our renovation were perfect. They also offered great ideas when we were unsure how to achieve what we wanted. Arash was in constant communication with us as well.
There were no surprises in our final invoice and the project was completed in a reasonable amount of time.
I would absolutely hire them again if we decide to do more renovations in the future.

Excellent Contractor

Arash and his team did a great job on my condo bathroom -- I had them gut it, remove the too-small corner shower (which required them to cut a hole in my living-room ceiling to cap off the drain. Another contractor might not have taken this extra step, and I'd have had weird smells forever. The hole is patched and you would never know it happened), remove the tub and turn that space into a walk-in shower. Arash has a great deal of building experience and a good eye for design as well. When not on the job himself, he was in constant contact and was very responsive to all of my questions. He did what he could to keep me from spending too much money on tile and fixtures (LOL) -- even going to the tile store himself and insisting that they exchange the expensive tiles I'd chosen for a slightly different style that he explained would look better (I'll never know, but his choice was half the price). His team -- Amir, Sohrab, Payman, Fred -- others whose names I've forgotten -- are all very respectful and trustworthy, and good problem-solvers. They worked quickly, cleaned up daily and respected my condo's renovation rules. I would definitely use them again; in fact I'm waiting for a quote for another project!

Bathroom Remodelling

I loved everything from start to end. Summit covered my floor with their special floor protection from my entrance door way all the way to the second floor where they renovated my two bathrooms. Arash and his team did an awesome job. They fulfilled all of my request and warned me not to use a certain tile which was my initial selection for the brick patterns and when they demonstrate the problem I saw how they would have looked if I was going to use them. They kindly take the time to help me to find the some similar looking tile without that problem, ( convex tile, cannot be explained how ugly it would have been looked to use them in staggered patterns) anyhow, they finished the project on time and always willing to listen and help, if they were against something they explained why, in a simple way that we understood what they mean. The whole project turn out to be more beautiful than what we expected originally. We feel so lucky to choose summit contractors since so many contractions seem to be a good fit initially but not all of them keep the same manner.
Thank you Arash and everyone else, for making this happen. Totally recommanded to anyone I know.

A Safe, Accessible Bathroom for a Senior Citizen - with a Curbless Walk-In Shower, GripTight Grab Bars, a Bidet Toilet with Auto-Flush, a Body Dryer, a Hand Dryer, and a Slip-Resistant Floor - Marvellous Work!

Arash, Amir, Nisio and other Summit Contractors team members created a most wonderful, accessible, safe, and beautiful bathroom for my mother, a senior citizen. They created a walk-in shower without any curb to eliminate the trip-and-fall hazard, which my mother's old bathtub presented to her. Amir built a sloping floor for the shower area out of wooden planks, and Nisio set the shower-floor tiles in such a way so that the water would flow into the linear shower drain and away from the walls. Nisio waterproofed the shower floor, walls, shampoo niche, and window edges both with whole-sheet Kerdi membranes and with RedGard painted over the Kerdi-membrane seams and all over the Kerdi membrane on the shower floor. This double waterproofing helps minimize the chance of leaks into the floor below my mother's bathroom. They installed the linear drain away from my mother's walking area to eliminate the chance of her tripping on the shower drain itself. They slopped the window sill and the shampoo niche in such away so that water pools off them towards the linear drain instead of sitting on top of them. They installed Dal tiles with a new StepWise technology on the bathroom floor. These 6" x 6" floor tiles are slip-resistant even when wet. They eliminated the door curb between the bathroom and the adjacent room, creating a seamless transition between the adjacent room, the bathroom's sink-and-toilet area, and the shower area, to help prevent slips and falls. They installed wooden grab-bar supports between the studs inside the walls (prior to putting up drywalls), in order to install the grab bars in a safe way, as it is unsafe to install grab bars without in-wall wooden supports. They installed custom-made Safe T Bars with GripTight technology that allows a person to grip the grab bars firmly even with wet and soapy hands. They added silicone around the grab-bar-wall connections and wall and niche corners inside the shower area in order to prevent leaks into the wall and damage to the drywall behind the tiles. They installed the grab bars at just the right height comfortable for my mother of 34" from the floor, with the exception of the toilet L-shaped grab bar whose horizontal arm is 27" from the floor. They also installed a Palazzani shower set with thermostatic temperature control and a red safety valve that their plumber programmed to be at just the right setting of water temperature most comfortable for my mother. The red safety valve prevents senior citizens (and any children, too) from getting scalded all over their bodies by hot water whilst in the shower. They installed the shower controls closer to the shower door for easy access by a caregiver or a PSW and the handheld shower head closer to the shower bench where my mother sits inside the shower. Even though this installation of controls on opposite sides of the water output was a little tricky, they still did it for us. They also installed wooden supports inside the shower ceiling and a 24" x 24" Juno rain shower above my mother's shower bench. This large rain shower has LED lights that turn blue when the water is cold, green when the water is warm and comfortable, and red when the water is hot. Summit created a shampoo niche and posted a hook for my mother's handheld shower head very close to her shower bench, so that she has easy access both to the handheld shower head and to her shampoo for the greatest possible independence, if she wishes to shower herself. The hose of the handheld shower head is extra long (90") for easier use, and its hook is positioned in such a way so as to eliminate the risk that my mother could trip on the shower hose or that it would be in the way of her grasping her grab bars. There is a second hook for the handheld shower head to make this shower head easier to reach by either my mother or a caregiver assisting her. Summit installed a Tornado Body Dryer so that my mother need not use towels nor bend down to dry herself after a shower. The Tornado Body Dryer has a special GFCI breaker attached to the electrical panel and is based on air technology, so it is safely installed inside the shower area, with no risk of electrocution. A 240V line had to be added for the body dryer, in order to make it work, as it requires above-110V electricity. They got Ninja Glass to put up a nice, thick, safe shower glass and to mount a beveled-edge custom-size mirror in my mother's bathroom. The shower-glass door is extra-wide and with a one-way swing to ease my mother's access to the shower area. Ninja Glass added Lexel and door waterproofing to prevent water from escaping out of the shower area. They also added a double-sided shower-door handle with curved edges to eliminate the risk of my mother hitting herself on a sharp handle corner. Summit Contractors also cut some special decorative tiles, including Italian flower-design tiles and a tile mural of Botticelli's painting "The Birth of Venus," one of my mother's favourite paintings, 's make my mother's bathroom more beautiful. This fine tile-cutting work was largely the work of Nisio, Summit's expert tiler. Nisio also installed a flower tile-frame for my mother's vanity mirror and flower boarders for her bathroom window and two of her three niches. Summit Contractors also installed a large farmhouse sink in my mother's bathroom that is easier for her to use than her previous standard small bathroom sink. The large sink is also practically flood-proof, as it has a large drain with a large opening and a WaterSense Moen faucet. At its highest water flow, the water stays on the bottom of the sink at the same low level of only a few millimetres, without overflowing, even if anyone were to forget to shut the sink faucet off, due to the largeness of the sink and its drain. Summit attached a granite vanity top that is beautiful and easy to clean and that has rounded bullnose edges to prevent my Mom from hitting herself on a sharp corner. They also installed a special electrical Toto toilet that has a flushing mechanism that flushes the toilet automatically each time a person gets off the toilet, without any need to press a flush lever, although there is a lever, too. This toilet has a "Washlet" bidet seat that can cleanse and dry a person after each use of the toilet for better hygiene. There is a remote control for the Washlet functions. The toilet's seat lifts up automatically as a person comes near the toilet and also closes automatically after each use of the toilet. The toilet seat can be even set on a warm setting to stay warm during the winter, although this setting is optional. This automatic toilet is of great help to my mother. Summit installed a Dyson hand dryer for my mother, which, like the body dryer, required a 240V line. It dries hands quickly in under a minute. Summit also built a niche for my mother's small towels and a niche for her garbage can, to keep her garbage can out of her walking path. They reversed my mother's bathroom entrance door so that it swings out of the bathroom instead of into it to maximize the maneuvering room she has inside the bathroom. The bathrobe hook is very close to the bathroom entrance so that my mother need not be searching for her bathrobe again - it is no longer hiding behind any door as the door hinges have been reversed. My mother wanted them to switch the places of her sink and her toilet so that her toilet would be closer to her bathroom entrance. Summit and their plumber did the necessary plumbing work and made this switch as she wished. A powerful Panasonic ceiling fan was installed to help suck steam and air moisture out of the bathroom quicker than her previous weak fan. This will help prevent the ceiling mildew problem she used to have in the past. The fan is activated by a humidistat whenever the air moisture reaches a certain level, and deactivated by the humidistat whenever it drops beneath that level. The bathroom ceiling and vanity lights are activated by a motion sensor as soon as my mother walks into her bathroom so that she does not need to worry about searching for the light switch in the dark nor stumbling through the dark when she goes to the bathroom at night. GFCI switches ensure proaction against electrician for the entire bathroom. There is one L-shaped grab bar right by the toilet to help her sit on and off the toilet. The shower bench has arms of its own for better support when she sits on and gets up off the bench. It is made of teak, which is resistant to water. Summit's painter painted her ceiling, door, and door trims beautifully with semi-gloss Benjamin Moore paint. My mother is extremely happy with her new bathroom, and I am extremely pleased with all of Summit's work. They were extremely patient with us, as it took me much time to find all the special materials for my Mom's new bathroom for her current and foreseeable future needs. They were extremely responsive, answering all my questions, replying to us always, extremely cooperative, extremely kind and helpful. They provided us with liability and WSIB insurance and a warranty on their work. They offered us an extremely fair price for the great work they did and the many fine details and alterations they attended to. They were patient with us and went out of their way to ensure everything was suitable for my mother. I could not have found a more wonderful team to create a splendid bathroom for my Mom. She will enjoy it and make use of for years to come, quite possibly for the rest of her life. I am deeply grateful to Arash and his whole team of Summit Contractors, who helped us with this complex project, and hence, I could not rate them nor recommend them more highly. They were far more responsive and helpful than anyone else we previously turned to for help and quotes. In the end, Amir even installed a grab bar by my mother's front entrance to help her with stepping into and out of her home, even though this was outside the scope of the bathroom work. Arash even helped me when I had a personal emergency, by referring me to a great professional who helped me, even though this was not his obligation nor part of the bathroom work. Thank you so much, Summit Contractors! My Mom and I wish you all the very best and will remain grateful to you for life!

Misc. fixes to house

We recently contacted Summit contractors for help with some relatively small jobs on our house, including a couple of plumbing fixes, some drywall patch-up work (including painting/finishing), modifications to a small section of vinyl flooring in our basement, and some work on our eavestroughs.

Arash was prompt and clear in his communications. His team was professional and a pleasure to work with. We were happy with the final results. Two thumbs up!

Bathroom renovation

We hired Summit Contractors to renovate a 3 piece bathroom. Arash was a pleasure to deal during the assessment and quoting process. He was very detailed and clear in terms of what the job would cost and need. We were responsible for procurement of all materials, so word of caution here: if you aren't familiar with proper calculation of square footage requirements for tile, or plumbing / faucet systems (they are getting more complex), definitely lean on some help to get it right from the start.

Arash and his team were highly professional during the work, always left the place nice and clean and were always very open to new suggestions and even last minute changes. And above all, they were just a bunch of nice guys to work with. And that's rare in Toronto's market. Well done Summit.
