We had a tech come out to repair our dryer. We thought it was broken, but it turned out to be an electrical problem. That much, the technician got right. The service call was supposed to be $80. I was the one who set up the appointment and my wife was there when he came. He charged her $160 because apparently he had to do a maintenance on the dryer to properly diagnose it. This maintenance cost us an extra $80 on top of the service call and my main complain is that at no point did the tech indicate that he was doing something that was going to cost more money. He came upstairs when he was done and gave us the price of $160.
I called back the same day and was put on hold for more than 15 minutes, at which point I hung up because I had other things to do. I called back later on in the same week and was told by the customer service rep that the time to dispute charges is when the technician is there. Once the transaction has been completed, they will not reverse any of the charges. Paying the technician amounts to an implicit acceptance of everything that the technician did and agreement with the charges. He said that he couldn't refund the money. In reality he could, but wouldn't refund the money.
The moral of the story is, if there are charges that you didn't explicitly agree to, call the office BEFORE you pay the technician to dispute them. Otherwise, there will be no relief.
Next time, I will definitely use someone else.
