I wouldn't have thought that buying a mattress would be an enjoyable experience, but that is exactly what it was for us once we found Black Sheep. Christian’s warmth, intelligence and kindness align perfectly with his superior, thoughtful products.

My husband and I went to his workshop to buy a twin mattress for our daughter and ended up buying her mattress plus a king-sized one for us. We custom ordered a different firmness for each side of our bed but after sleeping on my side for a few nights, I discovered that the firmness I had chosen was too hard. True to character, Christian offered to remake the mattress with a less-firm latex on my side at no extra charge. Throughout it all, he remained pleasant, patient and understanding.

I only wish we needed more mattresses so that I could further support this clever, well-informed craftsman and his wonderful local business! I can't recommend Black Sheep highly enough.

Christian at Black Sheep was very honest and reliable, we felt like we were speaking and dealing with a craftsman as opposed to a salesman. His workshop is organized and our mattress and bases were delivered on time. He was kind enough to understand we were on a budget, we paid almost half the price than we would have at other mattress companies. We bought the mattress for our 2 year old son and set it up alongside our queen made by a different mattress company in calgary. We all take shifts on the single because it is more comfortable, it is also constructed in a way that easier to move around. The wool mattress cover is great for little diaper leaks in the night as opposed to the cotton cover on our queen size bed. Next time we buy another mattress we will purchase from Christian at Black sheep, because of his quality products, and straightforward customer service.

I had a great experience with Black Sheep Mattress Co. I met Christian at his fabrication facility and talked about my needs. I got to see and feel the different material options available to me. We discussed the pros and cons of different options, given my needs, which was to invest in a mattress for my toddler that could serve him until he was 18. Christian informed me that 10 - 15 years out of a mattress was definitely reasonable, but also that at anytime that I felt my son's needs changed or that the mattress needed some refurbishing, that I could bring it in. Knowing this was great. Christian also indicated that if once I received the mattress, if I felt it needed to be firmed or softened up, that again these changes could be made. The turnaround time from when I ordered to when I received the mattress was great, especially considering that the mattress was custom made! Christian delivered the completed mattress right to my door. I would definitely use Black Sheep Mattress Co. again and have already recommended them to my friends and family.
In terms of price, I found the prices reasonable, compared to other mattresses that were made with organic or natural materials...and with Christian I personally picked my materials, an option I doubt would be available with other providers.
Now that we have the mattress in use, even though it is for my son, my husband and I enjoy laying on it to read him stories.

I’ve found Black Sheep by a fluke while looking for a mattress. We had no idea how to choose a good mattress and Christian shared his knowledge with us. The showroom is right in the shop so we could see all the supplies Black Sheep is using to create their art. The mattress itself, as well as the first class service we got, are above anything we could expect. We asked for some specific materials to be used and had to wait ‘til they arrive. Glad we did that! I didn't start out looking for an organic mattress. I thought a high quality mattress from any reputable retailer would meet my needs but after talking to Black Sheep Mattress Company and doing more research online, I realize that not all mattresses are made equal. Firstly, Christian was extremely knowledgable about sustainability and the benefits of organic vs. the other high end options out there. He was also very good to deal with and walked me through their handmade production process which helped me feel I could trust their product.

We got our queen mattress on time and when it was delivered, Christian arrived with it and helped us set it up. Gave us some tips on care and cleaning, it was a great, easy experience dealing with them. We've had our mattress for about a year now and we are very happy with it. It's very comfortable, and hasn't shown any signs of sagging. We also love the peace of mind that the mattress won't make us sick or have any adverse affects on our health.

Sometimes the greatest investment you make in your life isn’t what you put in your portfolio or bank, but what you put in your bed. Literally. In the case of the mattresses we purchased from Black Sheep Mattress, it’s filled with nothing but all-natural, organic goodness. It gives me peace of mind knowing that I’m not sleeping on, and breathing in for 8 hours a night, a mattress that contains formaldehyde, adhesives with VOCs, or carcinogenic, flame-retar(d)ant chemicals. But equally important is that this is the first mattress I’ve ever slept on where I did not wake up with a sore back. Even the highly-touted beds of the 5-star hotels I’ve stayed in during my extensive business travels have nothing on the goods from Black Sheep. These mattresses are very well-crafted with high-quality materials. To top it all off, Christian sure knows how to treat his customers with great care and attention. Highly recommended and well worth the investment.

I was searching for a queen-sized mattress that had as many sustainable materials as possible and after a bit of a search, came across Black Sheep Mattress. Christian is very knowledgeable and spent a lot of time explaining his process as well as finding the exact firmness of the mattress I was looking for. He also delivered my mattress on time (it took less than 1.5 weeks from the time I ordered it). The mattress is very well crafted and I've been sleeping very soundly on it. I would definitely recommend Christian and Black Sheep Mattress for the quality of service you receive and the workmanship of their product.

I felt confident right away with Christian's knowledge and recommendations for my specific sleep needs.
