I just had my roof replaced by Reid’s roofing.
They say they do things one way……. And actually do it another. I Do not recommend them!!!!!
UPDATE****** I just noticed they also went over some old shingles and did not lay down any membrane or drip edge. Why was this not noticed in the final inspection!!! They were mad they have been out 4 times…. Yet I had to find this. Be prepared to call in a roofer for a final inspection when Reid’s is done. Pics below **********
There were multiple OH&S issues.
First, there was the issue of only ONE worker doing the ENTIRE roof, and without wearing a harness. What if this man fell off the roof?!? What if he fell and got injured or worse….and my CHILD was the one to find him?!?!
Also, it took 2 days - which meant that we couldn’t use the yard because of the overhead work and the nails and debris that were out there. ….. With a full crew, our smaller house would have been done in a day. Also there were HUGE BANGS that shook the house and startled my child, my dog…… and me as well. I’m assuming bundles of shingles being dropped from one level to the lower one. The house shook!!!! I work maintenance and know construction sounds… it was something heavy being dropped.
We are not sure if this man was a subcontractor or part of their staff - regardless, no one ever came to check on him or his work. So you get 1 roofer doing your roof as fast as he can trying to beat the rain , then a “inspector” coming after it’s finished.
Is there the proper number of nails per shingle?!?!?! , are all the barriers laid properly….…..
Supposedly you can tell all that by a final inspection after all shingles are on the roof according to Reid’s roofing.
Reid’s Roofing states the roof is good, BUT they also stated they use crews, harnesses, and inspect during work. WELL I GUESS NOT FOR US!! So if no other rules were followed, how are they so sure my roof was totally done right.?????? !!!!!!!!!!
The malarkey shingles we put on have a huge nailing strip. To have all the low nails is not good. Maybe a bit of a Rush job.
Then there was a lack of communication. We understand that delays happen - but send me emails, call me….they extended some Eavestrough for us and put it down the middle of the garage which we did not want it there. They say they had no direction us…..so why would you not check with the owner first ? Or if your the professional, not ask when it was agreed to during the quote?
The house eavestrough ,garage door , and some siding were left quite dirty when the work was done. We had also picked up quite a few nails after the work was done.
It took the “final inspection” (2 days later) to have things cleaned up. There were also a few other issues, like low nails, siding trim, and flashing not nailed down flat. So now we have multiple caulking spots on our brand new roof , and some that you can see from the front sidewalk.
I work in the Maintenance dept at a Edmonton hospital, and if Reid’s roofing did the same kind of job, we would not be doing business with them again. ( actually they would have been asked to leave for not following oh&s).
My wife was determined to use Reid’s Roofing because they have so many accolades, and came highly recommended….. We are so disappointed. I guess you don’t always get what you pay for.
All I know is what I’ve seen from this company and their good reviews Do Not match up!!!
P.S. So I just had a meeting with Jake. He seemed not to care about the above issues. He stated it was crazy he had to come out 4 times for this issue. Not once did they set a time with us….. wait once, and he was a hour early. I have worked at the Misericordia for 30 years in Maintenance…… and as Jake stated “I don’t know roofing, and your getting a 10 year warranty “. However what I do know is good contractors and in my honest opinion ….this is not one.
I also talked to Jake about the worker. Who is subcontracted. He had admitted about knowing about the unsafe work practices. As my wife and I work in healthcare and deal with work place injuries…..:::this is not cool.
Thank You
All the Best and Take Care!!!!
Another update…..
So 5 areas were redone by Reids. 4 areas where the old shingles were not removed, and new shingles put on top and no drip edge.
I am not happy that the roof passed the final and only inspection, and the customer “ who dose not know roofing” was the one to find the issue.
There have been Many excuses from Reids but no ownership. They say they have been using this installer for years, and I guess I’m the only one he has cut corners with, or no one has gone up and checked their own roofs afterwards?
While Jake was upset with us he had to come out so many times….we are not that happy either. Heck even my neighbors have noticed, and 3 have politely hinted I should have used “their guys”….
Now Reid’s roofing was good at fixing the issues after they were found .
At the end of the day…….Reid’s Roofing might be a good company , but all I have to go on is my experience………And It has Not been a Good one.!! We are all tired and stressed and no one needs extra!!
