I had looked at Homestars initially in order to get several quotes for work on replacing my front interlock walkway. Some indicated they would not quote if I was getting other bids, others were competitive within a few hundred dollars, but I felt like I was just another quote and they could not care since they were so busy from Homestars. Kurt was not the cheapest, but certainly the most accommodating, personable and professional of all 5 contractors. His team cleaned up every day after the job and my walkway is outstanding. I have already had 3 people inquire about getting his information to do work. I would highly recommend Kurt and his company and will be having him do my deck in the backyard. I found Kurt on this website and asked him to come by and give me a quote for my front walk way. After getting quotes from a number of companies my wife and I decided to go with Kurt and his crew to redo the front of our house with a new walkway, porch and tree removal. Kurt was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions to help us get the best look for the best price. His crew was able to get our job done in one day and we couldn't be happier. My decision to hire Distinctive Designs Landscaping began when I first researched the company on the HomeStars site. After reading the reviews I contacted Kurt for an estimate. I can confirm that what I read from previous reviews is exactly what I experienced. I instantly felt comfortable with Kurt, and could tell that he was well experienced. We had previously received two other quotes, but neither company felt right.

The scope of our project included a new walkway and stairs to our wraparound porch. Kurt provided excellent guidance and suggestions on which materials would be best for what we were looking for, and provided ideas for placing the finishing touches on the project. All timelines were met and on budget. Work was completed correctly, sloping issues were corrected, and the stairs, which had previously settled lower down, are perfectly placed, which now allows for easier access to the porch.

The end product is perfect. The walkway and stairs look fantastic and there has been much interest in the neighbourhood in regards to who did this work. I would recommend this company without hesitation and am already thinking about using them again for our future backyard project.

This is the second time I have hired Kurt and his crew. Having to build a deck at a townhouse has its challenges with having to bring all materials through the house. No complaints from fellows. The deck is beautiful, work was done on time and everything was left neat and tidy. Once again, a very happy customer.

Working with Kurt and his team was a very positive experience from our first phone conservation until his visit over the holidays (6 months post project completion) to fix a minor issue. While his estimate was higher than others obtained, I felt comfortable that his price factored in all anticipated costs, comfort I didn't necessarily get from other contractors. In the end, not only are we absolutely in love with our new backyard, but Kurt was right on budget and finished AHEAD of schedule. My only advice: listen to Kurt's recommendations when it comes to selecting your design options: while he's too respectful to say "I told you so", we would have saved ourselves some grief since we waffled on a few selections and ultimately went with exactly what he suggested from day 1. Kurt and his team are professional, forthright, and very knowledgeable. No cutting corners. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Kurt and his team to my friends and family (and already have). After moving into our new home, we wanted to lower our raised front walkway to be flush with our existing interlock driveway. We found Kurt and his team through HomeStars and were happy to see all the positive reviews of his team’s work. Although Kurt’s estimate came in towards the higher end of those we collected, the positive reviews plus our experience with him through the quoting process made us decide to go with him. Months later, we were very glad that we did!

We had a tricky situation, with a number of other projects that needed to be completed around the same work area, which affected the scheduling of Kurt’s work. Kurt was extremely flexible and spent quite a few evenings on the phone with us, trying to figure out the best way to handle new challenges that came up with the work. Ultimately, because of Kurt’s patience, flexibility and commitment to doing good work and keeping his customers happy, we got a fantastic-looking new interlock walkway and wooden retaining wall to match our existing parking pad and landscaping.

The work was done over two days while we were at work, and at the end of both days, you would never know a landscaping crew had been there demolishing concrete, moving dirt around and sawing wood: they left the site unbelievably clean. Kurt was meticulous in selecting the right interlock to match our existing, guiding us through colour choices and providing his professional guidance. The final product looks great, matches our driveway and is exactly what we had discussed with him. There were also no surprises with the invoicing, which is always a good thing.

One item to note: if you need to reach Kurt, phone is the quickest way. Because the crew is usually out and on the road during the day, emails were followed up on in the evenings but phone calls were taken immediately.

Kurt, Shawn and Patrick cleared away construction debris, weeds, dieing plants and a fence that had its day quite some time ago and replaced it all with a beautiful landscape that suits our home so well it looks as if it had been here all along. Kurt's patient and friendly manner made the planning process a breeze. One day into the project, it was clear that our trust in his design suggestions was worth it. All three of them worked with care and attention to detail as they assembled a concrete retaining wall and walk-way, then created a gorgeous armour stone framed garden, placed river stone around our tree and laid sod. The address rock was the cherry on top of a landscape design that truly captured our hopes for our front yard. It was a pleasure having Kurt, Shawn and Patrick work at our home and we'd be happy to have them back as future projects arise.
