Carpentry At Its Best

This was our third job by Niall and The Carpentry at its Best. His estimate was reasonable and accurate which helped budgeting for the job. He offered his advice on the materials and finish, and was flexible on which materials we should get and which ones he will provide. The work, the most important part of any job was done very well, actually extremely well. Couple of time when cabinets did not match/fit, they re-did the portion of the mounting so that the result is perfect. I simply did not have to worry about anything. I am really looking forward to doing more renovations with him.

We found Niall and his team on Homestars and feel very lucky we did. They did an excellent job on our home renovation. The scope of work included the removal of a "curtain wall" of windows from the front of our home and framing for new windows. They also installed Hardieboard cement siding. It wasn't an easy job given the height of our house and some underlying issues they found along the way. We also had a new front door and cedar soffits installed.

Interior work included extensive drywall, installation of baseboards and removing bulkheads.

Niall clearly knows his profession very well and works extremely hard. We felt he really cared about our project and was meticulous with everything he did!

We weren't living in the house, so it was a great relief to be working with someone that we fully trusted. He was concerned with cost on our behalf and made suggestions that could minimize costs.

We recently hired Niall to repair the inside sealing to our skylight. The job involved drywall work, sanding and painting. Niall is a pleasure to work with. He reviewed our issue, quoted a decent price, then scheduled the work that accommodated our schedule. During the job, he made sure we were happy with the progress, and that the work area was cleaned up and tidy before leaving. When the job was done, he made sure we were fully satisfied with the finished work. Niall is great to work with and well definitely have him back again when we need work done. Highly recommended!

The third floor deck and double doors on our house have leaked off and on since buying the house new in 2000 The builder and two other contractors failed to fix the problem Carpentry At its Best led by owner, Nial, found and fixed the leaks and repaired the damage caused by them. We have a new roof and a new door and the water proofing has been tested by severe wind and rain. The work quality has been excellent and done on time. The price has been fair. I recommend Carpentry At Its Best for building, renovation and repair work.

Niall made recommendations of various price points to assist us in purchasing what was needed to complete the project, and the work was completed on time and on budget. I hired Niall and his team to build a wall of built in bookshelves with media centre (tv mount and space for devices). Niall came to see our space promptly, reviewed my initial designs and provided very useful suggestions for how to improve the look, finish, etc. He provided alternative quotes for building custom cabinets or installing pre-fab cabinets. His team was fast and efficient as well as polite and friendly. The build took 3 days and the team in our living room was very respectful of our space. The painting took a further 3 days and the painter was diligent and ensured the work area was completely separated and enclosed from the rest of the space. Niall was responsive by telephone and email. Highly recommended.

This was the second time using Carpentry At Its Best and the experience was the same. Niall and team did a great job repair damaged posts on a balcony and veranda. Strong attention to detail, knowledgeable team, clean work space, and excellent craftsmanship. Also helped me colour match the replaced siding board on the balcony.

Niall & team were very professional and great at communicating throughout the stages of the project. He asked the right questions to ensure we understood what was included in the scope of work and worked with us to find solutions when any challenges arose. For example, our architectural drawings were not clear, and Niall was able to advise us and work with the structural engineer to ensure we could proceed. He was always solutions oriented!!
