We became aware of Tenmore a couple of years ago when they were doing work on the balconies of our older White Rock condo. Compared with many other construction contractors we had dealt with, they were professional, courteous and performed their work on time, with minimum disruption.
An older family member also owned a condo in the White Rock area, and when ill health forced their move to a seniors complex, we were asked to list their condo for sale. After 6 months listing their condo with zero offers, we knew that renovation work to the 2 bedroom, 1100 sq ft condo was required to appeal to a broader range of buyers.
We contacted Craig at Tenmore and reviewed the condo with him and gave him our ideas and our realtor's ideas for giving the condo a major makeover. The work entailed:
- replacing all interior doors (including closet and pocket doors) and door casings, with new painted doors and trim.
- removing original rubber baseboard moldings from the unit and installing new wood baseboard moldings and paint.
- paint all interior walls.
- replace older lights, electrical switch plates and receptacles with new items. Also installation of ceiling light fixtures in the two bedrooms (previously neither bedroom had ceiling light fixtures)
- replace vinyl flooring in the laundry room
- replace lights, flooring, cabinets, sinks, toilets, countertops, plumbing fixtures in both the main and ensuite bathrooms with new items. The bathtup, shower and tiling were original, but still in good condition so these were not replaced.
- complete renovation on the kitchen. This entailed removal of all older kitchen cabinets, plumbing fixtures, appliances, etc. to completely gut the kitchen. New flooring, cabinetry, stainless appliances, sink, dishwasher etc were purchased and installed.
- The only reno hiccup involved installation of a microwave above the new range - the selected cabinetry would have placed the microwave too close to the cooking elements for safety, so we had to omit this item.
- complete cleaning of the condo after the renovation work was completed.
Condo strata councils can be tricky to deal with, but Tenmore kept the council happy, abided with their wishes and we received zero complaints.
All the above work was done within less than 2 1/2 months from our initial contact with Tenmore, and the condo was not listed during this period from December 2012 to late February 2013. The work was done within the promised time and within a few % of the original estimate.
All family members who viewed the newly renovated condo were impressed by the quality of workmanship, the greatly improved appeal, and the cleanliness of the unit. The condo was put back on the market with higher pricing and within 10 days we had competing offers, and sold it for very close to our listing price. We recovered about 90% of our renovation cost, so we consider the renovation to be money well spent.
Based on our experiences to date, we have no reservations with recommending Tenmore and we would definitely use their services again.
