I have waited over a month to calm down in order to try to write a fair and objective review of our experience with this company after having spoken with others who have windows installed by other companies and their outcomes. Here it is.
We were referred by a friend who had Visage do some work for him and said they were pretty good. My wife selected them as she most liked their style of windows. They were NOT the cheapest quote we received which was fine - you often get what you pay for and this was an important long lasting project/decision. Based on the times provided we picked a delivery/ install date three weeks away.
The Good
The windows installed - but not made by Visage - look nice, and so far seem to be doing their job as far as heat transfer/retention goes as we have had a cold front move in and they’re not leaking cold air/drafty like previous windows. Ask me again in 10 years.
The Bad
Morning of install booking nobody showed up at stated start time (8:30am). Called Dimitry the salesperson at 9am. He looked into it immediately. ‘Job somehow didn't get on the production schedule’. He wanted to reschedule install to next day that called for rain/did rain and we had plans for. I said no let's do it today as we have the weather for it, it’s still early, we have the day booked off from work and have prepared the house for the construction. When nobody was still here by 12pm I contacted him and said let's just do what we can today and you can return next week to finish. I don’t want guys still in my house at 8pm tonight nor do I want the job rushed. He said no it's okay we are almost there and it should take no more than 4/4.5 hours. I found this both ambitious and suspicious.
The Ugly
Lone window guy was still here at 8pm in the dark that night completing install long after the rest of crew took back off. The interior silicone caulking is a shambles and was everywhere (see photos). When Dimitry showed up right on time the next day for full payment I invited him to have a look around at the work – he said ‘the windows look nice’. When questioned about the caulking job he said this was their best silicone guy and that's the best they can do based on his vast experience, and that the job was not rushed because of the late start. The cleanup was a shambles. And I got to spend the next two days out on a ladder detailing our brand new windows with Goof Off to remove the sticker decal residue, greasy hand prints, etc they either couldn’t be bothered with doing or missed in the dark. If I didn't have a very tall ladder (as I too work in trades), the ability to climb it, work at weird angles at heights and the time to clean them we would have been screwed as they were not returning to detail them. Astonishing.
We gave the company numerous opportunities to return to clean up caulking, redo some work, refund some of the ticket price, etc and the solution we were given is they wanted to add some additional interior wood framing to cover/hide the work (think of a quarter round on a baseboard, only in your windows that’s not stained or made to match). We did not feel confident they could pull it off without more headaches and band aid fixes so we passed.
Terrible experience at a $9000 price tag.
Caveat emptor.
