Moving from North Van to Kitsilano

I've never written a review on a website before but I feel it necessary to do so after my move last weekend with Priority One Moving. Before the move I did some homework. I contacted a number of companies that gave me varied quotes from hourly to flat rates. None of the companies gave me a good feeling. My girlfriend ended up emailing me a link to Priority One Moving after she came across it online. I gave them a call and spoke with Mike. At the time he seemed way too good to be true. He was well spoken and very professional. I confirmed the move, fully expecting Mike to be the typical sales guy and I would end up getting a couple duds when it came to the actual move. I couldn't have been more wrong. Tony and Matt pulled up to my place Friday am (right on time might I add) and immediately introduced themselves with a handshake. They were young, clean cut and extremely courteous. As I watched them pack I was pleased to see that they had the perfect combination of speed and care as they worked. The weather was horrible - rain, snow, hail, you name it. They laid out floor protectors and really made an effort to not track in the mud at both locations. Thanks to the tight quarters at the new location, and the fact that we had to go back to North Vancouver to grab a second couch after the first one didn’t fit (which Tony and Matt tried to make fit for an hour as my girlfriend watched in tears because it was her favorite piece of furniture) the move ended up taking 10 hours, which was double what I was expecting, but again was in no way due to the hard day's work put in by both Matt and Tony. Being a Friday night, and the move taking double the time, you’d think you’d hear at least one complaint from the movers, but not only did they not complain, they never stopped working and had smiles the entire time. This day and age it’s so hard to find quality service, but Mike, Tony and Matt really came to the plate and went over and above the call of duty. To sum it up it I couldn't have picked a better company when it came to the move. I would not hesitate to recommend Mike, Matt and Tony from Priority One to anyone looking to move. The best part was Priority One was the most reasonably priced company out of all of the companies I looked at. Who would have guessed....

One bedroom move

This was the first time I have used a moving. I usually get my friends to help out. But unfortunately, I was unable to get their assistance for this move.

I then started calling different moving companies. I had a big price range from company to company. I also, was quoted different on how long it would take. When I called Priority 1 Moving. They set up a time to come to my place and take a look to see what I had and to help me be as ready for the guys to come up and get to work. It was then that I knew I was going to hire these guys for my move.

The day before Mike called me to confirm the time and to remind me to do what I could to get the elevator locked off.

The guys were scheduled to be there at 9:00am. I got a call from one of the guys, Matt, (I found it funny we had the same name and made for a good time during the day), at least 5 mins earlier to confirm where they park. Well This is where all my planning when out the window. The guys had to park around the corner from where they were supposed to be parked. I could not get a hold of the manager to lock off the elevator.

I took the guys on a tour of what I had and they were like this is going to be easy and that it looked like I have done this before (Thanks Mike!).

Even though there was no locked off elevator and the walk to the truck. The guys were so efficient that it did not seem to matter. They answered all my questions and were having fun the entire time! This made me start to rela and feel happy (for the first time during the process).

The unload was so fast I could not believe it! It took then 40 mins to do the unload! The truck was over half was full and they also made sure that I was ok and that things were where I wanted them!

Nothing was broken.
The guys still managed to finish faster then what I was quoted even with all the problems on the other end.
Both Matt and Tony were quick efficient and took really great care of my belongings.

What I really liked about the crew they engaged me in conversation while they worked that it helped me relax and forget a bit about the stress I hd the previous week.

Matt and Tony work so well with each other that they did not really need to talk to each other about what they were doing! I really liked this as it proved they been working together for a long time and knew what they were doing!

I will recommend this moving company to all of my friends, family and colleagues. I cant express how thankful I was to meet Mike, Matt and Tony. The guys did more than move me! They gave me piece of mind!

Thanks PRIORITY 1

Matt

Small one bedroom apartment move

Watch out! Priority 1 Movers has new people and the service isn’t what it used to be. We moved a small one bedroom apartment three blocks and they charged us $957 total.
The new guy, Mike, estimated that it would take four to five hours. Even after he came to our place and saw what we had, he didn’t change his estimate. In the end, they charged us for 8.75 hours, not the four to five hours estimated. Those 8.75 hours included a half-hour lunch break, around a half-hour when the truck mysteriously “got lost” driving three blocks in Kits, and at least 6 cigarette breaks taken by the crew. At ten to fifteen minutes per cigarette break, that’s $85 to $127 we paid them to sit around smoking cigarettes, instead of working.
They deducted the charge for the half-hour lunch break when my wife reminded them that, just a couple of hours earlier, when they took the lunch break, the driver said that we would not be charged for their lunch half-hour.
Mike says they billed us almost twice as much as his estimate because we were not ready for them when they came. Well, there were still a lot of items to load while we were packing the last few things. Even if the loading took a little longer than expected, that doesn’t explain why it took three and a half hours to unload the truck into a first floor apartment.
To top it all off, they charged us for five wardrobe boxes, two of which were used and beaten up. Their website says wardrobe boxes are included in the package. The emails I got from Mike said the wardrobe boxes are included in the package. When I talked to Mike on the phone, he said “You can have up to five wardrobe boxes, and, don’t worry, they are included in the package.” When Mike came to deliver the storage bins and asked me how many wardrobe boxes we would need, he said, “Don’t worry. You can have up to five wardrobe boxes for free. They are included in the price.” Guess what? We were charged $84 for wardrobe boxes. And some of them were used.
When I called Mike to get a refund because they had obviously made a mistake charging us for wardrobe boxes that they had repeatedly said were included in the package, he agreed to refund the $84 we had been overcharged. After we returned the storage boxes he gave me a cheque for $84. Guess what? The cheque from Priority 1 Moving Ltd. bounced. That’s right. The cheque from Priority 1 Moving Ltd. was returned by their bank. Even after we had paid them almost $1000 to move our small one bedroom apartment, Priority 1 Moving Ltd. didn’t honour an $84 cheque they had written to a good customer.
Be very careful! If you absolutely cannot find a reputable mover and have to use these guys, deal in cash. And when their website says, “There are no hidden fees,” don’t believe it. Unfortunately for people like us, who trusted the reviews on this site, it looks like the new people are cashing in on the good reviews of the previous owners. Hey, if you can find out where Ryan has gone, go there instead.

Company Response

Let me respond by saying I have been with this company since 2010 and have received positive reviews from customers that I have been involved in, as highlighted below. As to your complaint, the initial quote was for 5 hours is an estimate and is contingent on numerous things. After a confirmation phone call the day before I asked are you all prepared for tomorrow’s move you responded “Yes”. The day of the move there was fresh concrete steps poured at the front entrance so we had to move through the garage, which only stayed open for 10-15 seconds each time, and had to open and close the garage for every trip from the elevator with a turn key. Not to mention the elevators were not locked off as per requested which caused delays in loading/unloading of the elevator. You had 3 other people helping you pack in your apartment as the guys were trying to manoeuvre items to the elevator and were still packing 4+ hours into the move. Now on to the sanitary state of your apartment, I get a call from our movers who have over 5 years experience and over 1000 moves under their belts and they have never refused a job but soon into the job they began breaking out in hives and had trouble breathing. I went to London Drugs and purchased antihistamines, latex gloves, and masks as this was the only way they would continue with the job. I won’t jeopardize my workers health. I even stopped by and went up saw how dirty, dusty, an ill-prepared you were for the move. When I dropped off the bins to your home the lights were off and windows were closed and I didn’t see how unbearable it was. As for wardrobes, they are included (up to 5) in our moving quotes and these were one of the first items unloaded at your new place and your wife was asked to unload the contents, as we take these back at the end of the move. When the move was completed (which contained many lose items, and unsealed boxes which added to the time to load and unload) you were not present at the location and your wife had not emptied the wardrobes hence you were charged because they were left behind as we had to purchase new ones for a move we had scheduled the next day. When I picked up the wardrobes they were thrown away and the truck was thoroughly power washed and disinfected for fear of bed bugs. We even notified your new building manager about the conditions of your old place and they thanked our guys for letting them know and even a neighbour of yours offered up their own gloves to help our guys. Ryan is the owner of this company and is very much involved and backs the position of the company and our workers in your claims.

2 Bedroom apt move

Great customer service and very professional. The move went smoothly. However, the dining room table was slightly damaged in one corner. Ryan had this repaired for me with no problems. I definitely recommend them.

Moving

We recently used Priority One for a local move within Vancouver and had an great experience overall. Prior to the actual moving day, their staff provided us with an accurate estimate and over 50 reusable plastic bins. We required additional moving bins which they cheerfully dropped off for us. On the day of the move, they were on time and ready to go with the right equipment and experienced friendly staff. Our move was on time and on budget. We especially appreciated their professionalism, communication and follow through. We would recommend Priority One to anyone looking for a similar experience.

Packing and moving from basement suite to house

We lived in a small basement suite in Surrey. We contacted Priority 1. They were prompt and polite in providing an estimate. They provided top quality plastic boxes and paper well in advance as we packed many things ourselves. The team arrived on time, and took wonderful care of our furniture and more valuable items, wrapping them in blankets. We moved in the fall/ winter and it was a little wet. They tried their best to keep the floors and items clean. In the end, the team moved in less than the estimated time, saving us money. We were very satisfied using Priority 1 and would recommend them to anyone.
