Burlington roof

I was having a problem with my shingles only lasting 5 tears due to the slope over my garage. Since getting my steel roof, I haven't had that problem. As a side benefit, my heating and air conditioning costs are down.

Empty promises & The Run around

My Experiance with Hy-Grade
Last year my wife & i decided to upgrade our roof, We did some research & the company we choose was Hy-Grade (Big Mistake)
We contacted the company & the sales staff was excellent, they connivence us so we went forward with purchase.
The total for our roof was $24K, It was a lot of $$$$ but thought it would be a good investment. I am a professional tradesmen so i know a thing or two about construction, The Hy-Grade crew came & started the job,
The first day 2 guys came to start work, the next day came 1 guy came.
Then a week went buy with only 1 guy doing my house. I didn't understand but i had trust in the Big company so i didn't ask questions.
The second week came & went with only 1 guy working on my roof.
I was very disappointed as this is a job for a crew not a 1 man job,
The Third week came & went with only 1 guy again so i mention to the Hy-grade employee that this is a 5 day job & we are on the 4th week, I am having some serious concerns as 1 man can only do so much & make flaws, after mentioning the time line & quality of their framing work, just before the 4th week ended a crew of 4 came & finish the outstanding work on my roof. I pointed out a few major concern on the install.
1, The steel roof was nailed in but the nails were not drive in 100%
their is quarter inch left out, I ask for the to be fixed.
2, The Valley of the roof traps all kinds of dirt & leafs witch is Not normal
i ask for that to be fixed
3, I can see wood expose cause the installer didn't install or cover the framing well, i asked for that to be fixed.
Hy-grade has a 50y warranty on their product & install.
Well its been a Year & these issues have not been adress.
I have contacted the company a Number of times.
Spoke to my sales rep a number of times & he says that the office will contact me to book an inspection to have these issues fix,
4 month later got no follow up, so i called the company & ask for advice whats going on, they say that we are very busy & will get to you when we have time, Oh Wow. So i called the owner as this is Not acceptable in my views. I got a hold of Tom the owner, He also mentioned that they are very busy but will have some one from the office call me to book an inspection call to address my concerns, I waited 1 month ! Then got upset & called the company again, now its been 5 month that i have dress an issue & Not Happy at all, LONG LONG Story short.
MY VERY EXPENSIVE ROOF ISSUES IS STILL NOT FIX & I AM GETTING THE RUN AROUND, i Do have all text & Pictures to proof my claim.
I am Truly Disappointed with my experience with this company. I feel that they just took my hard earn $$$ did a Poor Job & Ran.
Its has been a year Now & still nothing has been done, With the flaw on my roof, i don't think it will last 4year due to the flaws.
Be Careful choosing this company

Update on the issues, Oct 30th/17
Got a call from Lance Cline Hy-Grade Specialist/Forman
Oct 20th/17 stating that he & his crew of 3 will be at my place first thing in the morning for Oct 30th/17 to have all my issues address
Today on Oct 30th/17 Lance came at 12:30 afternoon
I asked him where is his crew of 3 & he said that things happen & his guys couldn't make it, I was very disappoint !
I ask him you have the scope of work & pictures, His reply was i know what needs to be done & it will get fixed, (In my head & Common Sense)
How can you come to some one house to do a job & not have a scope of work planed out, VERY UNPROFESSIONAL (SO SAD HY-GRADE) & This is your best Man that you have in the company WOW!!!!
He reassured me that all will be fixed, SURE!!!
You come half day & you think you will get all the imperfections fixed!
(NO WAY!!!) He started fixing the front of the house,
At 4:30pm he packed up & said that he was finish & getting ready to leave. I asked him what about the Top of the Roof & the back of the house. His reply was that's all i can do.

Hello Mr. Nguyen,

Thank you for sharing your concerns. Please know that the service order on your roof has been completed, has met all requirements and is covered under our 50-year No Leak and Lifetime Workmanship Warranties.

Our records indicate a dissimilar purchase price. If you have any questions about this please contact our accounting department for more information. During the installation of your roof, our crew did experience some unexpected challenges. To avoid extended delay, the installation of your roof continued with available resources until further arrangements could be made. Issues were found in the first Quality Control inspection conducted last November and we did call back the installation crew to address these concerns. A second QC inspection was then conducted earlier this year and issues were noted. This was a thorough and lengthy inspection by one of our service techs. A third inspection was also conducted following the installation of new windows by a third-party. This inspection took 4 hours to complete and all remaining issues were noted at this time. As some issues were still found to be problematic and not yet warrantable by us, our Service Manager scheduled a call to address these concerns. He did intend on bringing another service tech to site with him but due to personal matters this tech was not able to attend. Again, to avoid extended delay, our Service Manager attended the call. Over the course of this service call all issues found in the second and third inspection were addressed and rectified to our Hy-standards. Repairs to the upper roof portion were accessible from the lower roof and were completed. You were present at this time and explanations were given as each repair was resolved. Over the course of these interactions multiple staff members were subject to belligerent and threatening behavior. This did require us to take added precautions and added time as safety is always our first priority.

It is our understanding that there have been no leaks or major functional issues with your roof to date. At this time, your roof is completed to our standards and is under warranty.

service

I'm extremely disappointed with HyGrades finale inspection and follow-up as I provided around 10 pictures of issue's I required further explanation and corrections. Customer services would not return correspondents (over 60 days) Sales person guaranteed he would get follow up and get back to me ( over 30 days ago) Finale e-mail to sales person requesting Tom Ware to follow up with concerns still no correspondents. Once they had had finale payment I'm left with the impression that the warrantee will be not worth paper it is on as they will not correspond. I have a number of pictures I asked for info on and as Hy-Grade Sales were quick to comment on my neighbours roof I will be happy to share my photos with others to come to their own opinion. Screening was to be installed over roof vents, not done, holes for roof vents not above original roof vents, should be cut in directly below. Sharp edges, Material left loose on roof during storm and blew off. I could vent all day and never wished to do that, all I asked for is explanation and to a few pictures and to know the job was done correctly not a form letter saying all is good after we both know there are issues.

Hi Ed. Thank you for sharing your concerns with us. We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with the final inspection and follow-up with the installation of your roof. We do want to assure you that your roof has passed our Quality Control inspection and is therefore under warranty. Our service manager was on site and met with you to address all of your concerns following your original correspondence. While on-site, the installation crew also returned and completed some repairs required by Hy-Grade. At this time, our service manager completed a full walk-through with you on the roof where all of your concerns were addressed and explained. As explained, with our double-strapping method, shake vents do not need to be placed directly above the old vents to function correctly. The entire system is engineered to breathe even without shake vents. Two weeks following this on-site visit, a second Quality Control inspection was conducted as an added measure to ensure the completed work on your roof met our HY standards. Your roof passed all requirements of this second inspection and we are able to confidently warranty your Hy-Grade Steel Roofing System for the next 50 years.

Roof vents

We purchased a home that already had a roof installed by Hy Grade. The roof is performing very well after 15 years and the warranty transferred to us successfully. We noticed that the original installers had missed the installation of two bath vents. After contacting the co., the 2 vents were installed with no hassles. The whole team was very professional and were a pleasure to deal with. Very happy with the support and would heartily recommend.

New Steel Roof

We regret our decision to invest our new roof purchase with Hy-Grade Roofing. Their customer service is terrible. They are very attentive until they have your money. Our roof was installed on April 26, 2017 it is now September 20 and our issues have not been addressed as promised. Our sales representative gave us his word that he would make sure that our concerns with our roof were resolved - have not heard from him since May 25, 2017. We email, we call and we even mailed a letter and pictures of the poor workmanship on our roof - still no response. Buyer beware, the caulking and screws they use do not match the colour of your roof. Apparently they only use one colour - charcoal grey - at least that is what we were told and what they used on our black roof. Ask questions about what it is you are really going to receive and make sure you hold back the allowable 5% until you are satisfied. Be aware you cannot hold back anything if you use their financing services. We thought we were signing up with the best, but we were very, very wrong.

Company Response

Hello Mr. & Mrs. French,

Thank you for sharing your concerns with us and giving us a chance to address them. We would like to reiterate to you that the installation of your roof has passed and exceeded the requirements of our Quality Control inspection completed in May. Your roof is now warrantied under our 50-Year No Leak Warranty as well as our Lifetime Workmanship Warranty.

The caulking is there simply for your peace-of-mind as people may assume a small gap in any area is unintentional, when in fact it is intentional and has no impact on the roofing system’s functionality. The reason we use this particular caulking is simply that we’ve found it adheres best to our steel. We understand that you are concerned with the colour and will therefore place a special order for caulking and screws that pair closer to the colour of your roof. We have arranged a date for us to complete this service and have given you notice. We are able to confidently warranty this installation as our system is mechanically-sound and by design does not rely on caulking these areas. Please understand that your concerns are cosmetic and do not affect the functionality of your roof in any way. Thank you for your cooperation in resolving these concerns.

New roof

We had our roof replaced with a beautiful Hygrade steel roof end of October early November 2015. We had spent a great deal of time researching options and had a pleasant experience with this company right from the start. I had a lot of questions about the actual fabrication and installation methods and given we weren't too far from their headquarters they offered us a tour of the shop where the tiles
were fabricated/shaped and we were shown how the crews were being trained on installation methods. Probably far more thorough research than most would do but this was a big investment so we took the time and everyone we spoke and met with proved very kind, knowledgeable and helpful. From sales through to the installation crew on site and the follow up inspection, all dealings were professional and as promised and expected. We are very happy with the product and service and would highly recommend this company.

Steel Roof

I am totally disappointed with their customer service. My roof was installed mid February but could not be completed due to lack of material. It is now 2 1/2 months later and problem is still outstanding. It is maybe a 1/2 hour fix. They have provided their response of "will be done next week" numerous times but nothing. I have had my roofing consultant contact them at least 4 times to fix this but nothing. They really do not care about after service. Head office have never bothered to contact me, only the consultant has.

Metal Roof

I am a new home owner who was unfortunately stuck with the mammoth task of replacing my roof. I shopped around many asphalt roofing companies and I also asked my friends about their experiences with roofs. I had asphalt quotes approximating near what I paid for my metal roof. So after these asphalt quotes I thought of considering a permanent metal solution. I was thinking in this mindset as I calculated that eventually I would be spending seven to eight thousand dollars every ten years following this roof so I came to the conclusion of spending ten thousand dollars once and have a permanent roof. Then came the barbaric task of choosing the right roofing company. I have gone through multiple companies until I found HY-GRADE. Their unique metal roofing system got me hooked to their roof and I decided on this company to do my roof. everything was going well until my plumber came over to attach my Kitchen range hood and bathroom exhaust fan. He told me that the vents the roofing company installed were 3 inch ABS where we needed a 6 inch galvanized steel exhaust vent. I called the roofing company and explained my problem to them. They called back a few days later saying that to fix my problem they would have to remove the existing vents an replace them with larger 10 inch vents, this meant that the original seal around he vents were not going to be as structurally flawless as before the 10 inch vents. My plumber told me the workers should have known that to vent a kitchen exhaust and a bathroom exhaust, they both need 6 inch galvanized steel pipes running out of the roof with a larger vent to accommodate for the large air mass flowing out. In conclusion, I love the roof, but I am not satisfied with their after sales services.

Hi there. Thank you for sharing your experience with us. In this scenario there were some circumstances that caused a delay in replacing the vents in your system. Our installer was informed that he was required to return to site and replace the vents but first had to get in touch with the HVAC contractor you had hired. Our installer did have quite some trouble getting in touch with this worker which caused some delays in correcting the situation. Communication with our service department during this time was constant as we did want to ensure that your concerns were addressed as soon as possible. It is our understanding that these issues have since been resolved. We do apologize for any inconvenience you experienced but are glad that we were able to satisfy your request as soon as we were able to coordinate with the HVAC contractor.
