Chris arrived promptly at the time scheduled. My job was a new construction 4000 square foot house and took approximately 3 hours to complete, longer than the estimated 2-2.5 hours.
Access holes were cut at the furnace air return and at the discharge. A large 8" (approx) suction hose was fit into the return vent and fed into a huge 5' tall vacuum canister containing a prefilter and a HEPA filter. Chris then pushed a air powered beater brush through each vent run to loosen the settled detritus while the mega-vacuum suctioned it all back through the HEPA. The brush itself consists of approx 10" lengths of fabric that should be able to reach all sides of the vent. More typical duct cleaning outfits have the rotating toilet brush thing that probably makes contact with less than 10% of the vent surface. Chris drilled small access ports (only where possible - not on finished surfaces) to get the best coverage possible.
The furnace (Carrier Infinity 96) was run during construction so was contaminated with quite a bit of drywall dust as evidenced by looking at the HEPA and prefilter after completion. As these new high efficiency furnaces are fairly complex electronically, I was pleased to see it well cleaned before being put into fulltime service.
Overall I was pleased with the service received. They are far from the least expensive option but the level of cleaning is unusually thorough compared to the typical duct cleaner. I will recommend to friends and acquaintances, especially those with asthma sufferers like our family. Not everyone is willing to spend the extra money so that's why I gave 4 stars. And I got 25 Airmiles too.
