Leaking Basement

I recently had a significant amount of water leaking into my basement when it rained and wasn't sure where it was coming from or what to do about. I tried contacting a waterproofer who we used 8 years ago but they never returned our call. I then contacted 3 companies including Nusite. One company told me I had a plumbing and draining issue and quoted me $10,000 for and interior plumbing repair job. The second company said I had water leaking in the foundation but couldn't identify from where and didn't offer any suggestions to correct the issue. Geoff from Nusite came to my house and looked around and said that there was a few possibilities where the water could be leaking in from and suggested I myself do some simple external repairs including making sure the eaves trough and downspout were clear before pursing more elaborate and more costly work. I did the things that Geoff suggested and since them the problem has been resolved! I am grateful to Geoff for his insight and integrity. He not only helped fix my problem but it didn't cost me cent! He was truly looking out for my best interests. I would highly recommend Nusite to anyone who is looking for a knowledgeable, honest company with great Customer Service who truly puts the needs of the customers at the forefront.

Waterproofing and Concrete Foundation Repairs

I have recently moved into an older home in North York, and wanted to deal with the damp feeling in the basement, as we are looking to rent it out. I contacted Nusite, who I had used in my previous home, as well as a few other companies to price out the project. I ultimatley chose Nusite because I felt most confident in their knowledge and sincerity. Other companies offered lower prices for quick fix solutions, but I did not feel that they had my long-term interests in mind. Ryan from Nusite recognized that in order to completley solve the issue, I would need dig around my house and do some concrete foundation repairs and waterproofing. He also took the time to explain to me the full extent of the issue, and the possible solutions so that I felt comfortable with the decision.
As I am looking to rent out the basement, I wanted to make sure the issue would be successfully taken care of. I was very happy with Nusite, and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality, professional work.

Holiday disaster: still cleaning up after their FAIL

Months ago, Nusite made my mother's basement leak categorically worse. This claim has been independently inspected, verified and reported on by forensic engineers. My mother, who lives alone, needs to keep a basement tenant to supplement her modest income. After Nusite was hired to get the jump on one small leak in the corner of the basement (she's extremely conscientious as a landlord), more and more water began entering the premises each time it heavily rained. It was even the same colour as the red sand that they used to infill their trench! To avoid mold growth, she has had to remove a portion of the damaged dry wall from her tenant's apartment, exposing the now damp foundation walls, as well as keep a dehumidifier running 24/7. What a terrible thing for her tenant and his two young children to live with during the holiday...! My personal inconvenience has been relatively minor, limited to organizing and communicating with the engineering firm that our family has had to pay on top of Nusite's original fee. (We had to hire them to get independent proof that Nusite's offer to fix the problem for a fee was against the spirit of the original contract.) I'm now heading over to Christmas dinner early so I can shovel melting snow off the tarps covering Nusite's inept weeping tile excavation. Nusite's owners, Ryan and David S. (My final restraint keeps me from naming them) have seemingly passed all responsibility onto the employee/sub-contractor who completed the original work: They won't return our calls or emails. This employee seems not to have the resources or will or skill to correct the job. Nusite itself has taken ZERO meaningful action to protect my mother's home and their brand's name. I've hesitated for months to post this, thinking "They have to do something! Surely, this week they'll take responsibility?" But no. Nothing. So today I'm respectfully posting this. It's a family focused time, one that should emphasize generosity, kindness, and goodwill. We are lucky to have a home at all, I know this. Truly. But so too are David and Ryan S. lucky to have many thousands of my mother's dollars. Let's hope goodwill is put into action now. I've got an extra shovel if they've got the day off...

Company Response

We are sorry this customer had this experience. The client made us aware of the issue and we immediately were on it to rectify the situation. We had a meeting with the customer at the end of September 2016 to do a test hole and inspect the work. This is common when there is an issue so we can make sure a proper repair and any discuss potential extras to make sure the waterproofing is perfect. We offered to do the whole thing for free and collect the balance that was held back by the customer (whom we offered free financing). This offer was rejected by the customer at which time they chose to source their own engineer to investigate. Once their report came in it was the beginning of December and we were in constant contact with the customer since the reported incident. We are currently going back and forth with their engineer to solve the issue. The leak/flood the client is referring to was a result of a sinking hole that is common after an excavation and it was immediately rectified and since then there is no reported leaks.

The balance the job payment is still unpaid we are still waiting on the customer to make a decision on the scope of work offer by Nusite. This included a free sump pump, free extra waterproofing to install the sump pump and any structural work needed to complete the work at cost.

We are working diligently to solve this and come to a resolution with the customer and their engineer.

Underpinning/Excavating Basement Project in East York

Given the extreme climate of the real estate market in Toronto, my partner and I chose to create more liveable space in our home by underpinning and excavating our basement. Although our initial meeting with Gemil lasted over 2 hours, it took mere minutes for us to feel confident with Gemil’s extremely evident experience in underpinning and waterproofing. Gemil’s customer service is impeccable. He is an anomaly in the construction industry. Compared to other companies we interviewed, NuSite truly stood out. Gemil came prepared with information brochures on their methods of underpinning and waterproofing. He is genuinely passionate about his work, and it shows. He took the time to examine the space, and ask and answer questions. This assisted greatly in the preparation of an accurate estimate for us. NuSite does not try to engage customers by creating low-ball quotes that balloon during construction. Of course, one must expect their quote to change once construction progresses. Our home was built in 1927, so there were quite a bit of issues we ran into once the walls came down with respect to plumbing, structure, and electrical. These issues were all, indeed, hidden, and somewhat expected. Our estimate with respect to the underpinning itself remained the same.
Gemil really is your best advocate throughout the project, putting you first and ensuring that all of your questions are answered and all of your concerns are addressed. His rolodex of contacts were extremely helpful as well for related work we needed done such as architectural work, HVAC, masonry, and plumbing. We began the underpinning in April. Unfortunately for us, April was a particularly cold month in Toronto. As part of the demolition, our furnace was removed. Gemil brought us electric heaters (some from his own home!) to ensure that we were warm. He also put up a privacy tarp to cordon off the front door entrance and basement stairs from the rest of the house. This was amazing as it kept dirt and debris outside of our living space, as well as provided some privacy when we were getting ready for work in the morning as the workers arrived.
Martin was assigned to underpin the basement and excavate a new room. Hard-working does not come close to describing Martin and his team. These gentlemen worked tirelessly from early in the morning until late in the afternoon, 6 days a week, to underpin our basement 4 feet. They managed to create a 10ftx12ft room from our former crawl-space/cold room. This is no small feat as it was truly done by hand. No heavy machinery was involved. They were all very polite, clean, and respectful of our home. They finished the huge project ahead of time, which took roughly 7 weeks to complete. Aside from minor hiccups, natural to any project of this scope, the underpinning, waterproofing, and excavating went smoothly. We strongly believe that no large renovation exists without problems. But it is about how your contractor handles the problems that really matter. Do they go above and beyond to ensure that you are satisfied? This is where Gemil shines brightly. For example, when we discovered that NuSite’s copy of our house key was not safely stored, Gemil installed a lockbox very quickly. When there was a communication issue with a third-party structural engineer, Gemil assisted in having NuSite cover part of the invoice cost. When one of our new drains was mistakenly covered during the concrete slab pour, Gemil ensured that the plumber returned to re-locate and open up the drain in a timely manner.
We were prudent to stay involved in every step of the process, which helped keep surprises at bay. Although we typically initiated contact with NuSite, Gemil would always return our call within 24 hours. Communication is key, and Gemil was always transparent. Making the decision to underpin is a huge one. We are so happy that we chose to go through it with NuSite. We highly recommend Gemil and Martin at NuSite. For the amount of money involved in a project like this, it is so important to find the absolute best of the best: A company with a great warranty on their work, with experienced and respectful workers, and a personable foreman. NuSite encompasses all of this, truly making them the best of the best.

Drainage system

My husband and I recently hired Nusite to install a drainage system, grading, install a storm drain and sump pump on our property. We were very pleased with the outcome and experience. The Nusite staff were professional, friendly and completed the job quickly. They cleaned up after the job and it was as if they were never there! I highly recommend this company. Gemil, the sales rep was very knowledgable and answered all my questions and concerns. He went out of his way to help us. This is a company you can trust!
