Windows and Doors installed

Hi-Tech installed 10 windows and 4 doors on our house; Hi-Tech fired the installer after 4 or 5 installs, our house was one of those 4 or 5. Hi-Tech's installer forgot his tape measure, so he "guessed" at the jamb width on our windows; He "guessed" wrong, and used the wrong width of jambs, now the windows are recessed so far back that the window sills are basically flush with the outside walls. In an attempt to hide his mistake, the installer used a grinder on our stucco to "flatten it". The job went downhill from there.
Sean and Ernie will not take responsibility for the mistakes and damage that Hi-Tech's installer caused. We refused to pay the outstanding balance, until the job was corrected. Sean placed a lien on our house, and we are now headed to court.

IN ANSWER TO HI-TECH'S anonymous RESPONSE BELOW to Steve’s 10 window and 4 door install: IF Hi-Tech, where my company, and, I saw a review such as Steve’s, I would be publicly begging to get in touch with Steve, in order to amicably resolve this impasse. Hi-Tech flatly refuses!...
Hi-Tech has chosen to simply send Steve a letter, dated April 7th 2014, stating that; IF, the outstanding balance is not paid in full, in 7 days, then Hi-Tech will send this impasse to collections. Steve would prefer to amicably resolve this issue with Hi-Tech, or, go before the courts. Steve will NOT be paying any money to collections, or to anyone else, until Hi-Tech corrects the work, and, repairs the damage to Steve’s house.
Hi-Tech states in their response; ”Without being able to speak to the details of this particular job, it is always our hope to be able to resolve these types of impasses amicably. When there is fair and open communication on both ends all problems can be solved”. CALL STEVE; he is available 24/7, for contact from Hi-Tech to resolve this impasse; Sean, Hi-Tech’s GM refuses.
Steve has now involved the BBB, and the Manitoba Governments, Consumer Protection Office, in an attempt to bring Hi-Tech to the table. Sean, at Hi-Tech refuses, Sean just wants Steve to pay for damage and a bad install. There is absolutely no breach of contract been made on the part of Steve the customer… Steve simply refuses to pay for damage to his house, and, a bad window installation.
In order to resolve this impasse; more than once, Steve has offered to place the entire outstanding balance, in cash, or certified check, into the hands of a 3rd party, to be paid in full to Hi-Tech, after Hi-Tech has honored the contract, by correcting the install and repairing the damage; Sean, flatly refuses. Hi-Tech; Please feel free to Contact Steve and Steve will be more than happy to resolve this impasse with, or let’s go before the courts.
Steve.

Company Response

Hi Steve,

Hi-Tech Energy Windows will always stand behind it's products and installations. The warranty that we provide is evidence of this commitment and is a legally binding document. Builder's lien's are only used in the most extreme circumstances where a breach of contract has been made on part of the customer. Without being able to speak to the details of this particular job, it is always our hope to be able to resolve these types of impasses amicably. When there is fair and open communication on both ends all problems can be solved. In rare cases a solution is not possible and other measures must be taken. This is an unfortunate reality for any business.

Replaced 13 windows and one door

When deciding to redo our windows and door we received quotes from three different companies. Hi-Tech offered us a good price for a new product (super core) so we went with them. We were replacing 13 windows and one door with their new super core product which was an insulated window frame which included a lifetime, transferrable warranty. We signed a contract May 24, 2012 with the promise that it would take 6 to 8 weeks to get our product, possibly a little longer, up to 10 weeks for our door since it was a custom door.

We waited with no word until about the middle of July when the 8 weeks was nearly done. We called them to find out what was happening (our first frustration). Well, sales didn't do the follow up. That was a different department. Okay. The short version is that our windows were not installed until the first week of Sept. That was at 15 weeks since we signed the contract, almost twice as long as they promised with hardly any contact from their end to let us know what was happening. We were the ones contacting them most of the time to find out what was going on.

Our windows were installed with no problems. We had a great installer (Randy) whom I would recommend. We are generally happy with the product.

The problem was with our door. It was produced with the hinges on the wrong side. This may not have posed a problem in some homes, but we have an older home and the door would have opened into a wall. We had a new door ordered and we waited again. At week 23 (Nov. 1) We finally have a new door, or do we? The installers installed a door, but the hinges were still on the wrong side. Seriously?!? How do you get a job wrong twice?! The installers assumed the door was correct, so installed it without noticing until the door was already in.
This finally seemed to get someone's attention because we finally had our correct door installed on Nov. 8 (24 weeks after signing our contract).

During that time the communication we received from the company was very poor. I had even left a message with the manager (Shawn) at one point and did not receive a phone call back for three days. It felt like no one really knew what was going on. What really bothered me was that the management (Ernie and Shawn) did not feel like they needed to make the situation right. They felt by having our door installed they completed their job and that was that. From a customers point of view that is such poor service. They did what we hired them to do, but not in the time frame they told us and with poor customer communication as well as two very huge errors. We did not receive any compensation for the poor service or the error, so basically they did nothing for us. The service rep. who sold us the product (Ken) did give us a gift card to a restaurant, but he did that out of his own pocket. I find it hard to believe that the management would do nothing for us. We do not recommend this company to do business with.

Company Response

Hi Corrie,

From time to time there are jobs with errors that occur and we apologize for any inconvenience that this posed for you. Typically we do not offer financial compensation for errors as you had requested, but we do our best to correct them as quickly and painlessly as possible so that our customers get everything that they paid for and can start enjoying the benefits of their investment. In your case it does not appear that this happened. We apologize for the delays in correcting the error and hope that you were able to enjoy a nice dinner out on behalf of Hi-Tech and your sales rep (Ken) now that the job has been completed satisfactorily.

windows for small home

We called Hi Tech in 2011 to have a rep. Come and explained the type and ways to fix our windows. He explained with honesty and told us the slider windows should be first. This we did. We then called again, tbey came and measured for the living room, next year the kitchen and on through each room. The work was done well and now we have no drafts and :the sun cannot damage our furniture. Excellent jobs and everything cleaed up before they left here.
Way to go Hi-Tech.
