boiler installation

My old boiler was installed by a contractor about 15 years ago. Since the day after installation, the third floor (attic) no heat, the water never get to that radiator. The contractor said they can't fix it. I extended 2nd floor master room a few years back. We use best insulation materials but the room is still cold.
Lucky I have fireplace in the third floor, it was still fine for many years. But 2nd floor master room is kind of pain. My fireplace stopped working for a while; the third floor is really cold. So I was considering to buy a new high efficiency boiler and both radiators (upgrade to big sizes)

High efficiency cooling& Heating Inc sales person Jacky checked the whole system and told me that my radiators sizes are ok; I don't have to waste money. The old boiler pump might be too small. Their technician would try to fix for me, new boiler installation should reach the third floor. And some of the valves haven’t been used for long time, he ask me to change that with very reasonable price. He recommended Viessmann boiler for me. I was very impressed by Jacky’s professional and patient. I signed the contact right the way with him, It was my third quote but the best one.

The boiler was installed as scheduled. This installation work was done very professional and neat. The second floor master room and third floor nicely warm. I’m so excited with the work been done. Thanks to Peter and his co-worker. However the second day my neighbor complained that steam came out from the side wall and asked if we can lift the exhausted pipe to make it looks better. I called Jacky, and Jacky arranged the technician to fix it next day.

I highly recommend this company. Best price with best service I got.

furnace replacement

My 15-year-old furnace actually stopped working at a Saturday midnight,I was wondering if someone could help since it was snowing outside at -10?,then I found this company on google and intended to get through. It was 1am and to my surprise, someone did take the phone!!He simply asked a few questions to get an idea of the situation and promised to come over the early morning.About 9am,he got my home. After careful diagnosis he quoted me a price for fixing this old machine and suggested me to replace a new furnace after comparing the advantage.Showing me some different brand units according to my budge,I finally made my decision to buy a Rheem furnace which perfectly meet my requirement!
Just in the afternoon, their installer spending only 4 hours in finishing this job!! It is really unbelievable that I could get my heat back less than 24 hours!!
Thank you again Rocky, and thank you High Efficiency!

Furnace replacement

Our 18-year old Lennox furnace suddenly started to refuse to ignite, which lead to a desperate call to A DIFFERENT heating company for repair. They came out and "repaired" the furnace, but we decided on their advice to consider replacing it.

Given that it was mid-January and the Home Reno Tax Credit was just about to expire, many contractors that I called were "too busy" to come out quickly and quote me. A Google search turned up a local company called High Efficiency & Cooling, although they seemed to predominately Chinese market I decided to give them a call.

A man by the name of Rocky called me back within minutes and arrange to come over THAT DAY (which is what I wanted). He came out on time and impressed me with his knowledge of HVAC, pointing out a few things in our current system that weren't up to current gas code and would have to be changed. He was also the only sales person I ever saw who measured things, pointing out that I only had the minimum 2ft of clearance in front of my furnace service panel.

I didn't give Rocky the business immediately, I did shop around. He'd recommend an American Standard (Trane) unit which I thought would be too expensive. I was pleasantly surprised by his quote, but still wanted to get another quote...one of which was cheaper.

On talking with Rocky he explained the extra value his firm offered, what to "watch out for" with cowboys, and said he really wanted to win our business and would match the other price. I took a chance as I had a good feeling about him.

We scheduled the install for the following Sunday and signed the paperwork. The very next day, my original furnace broke down!

I called Rocky early in the morning as he lists his cellphone number on his business card (quite frankly, I think I might have woken him up -- that's how early it was). He answered, listened to my predicament and said he'd call me back. He called back within a few minutes and said he'd need to check with their main office about the schedule for the day and see if they could get my new furnace installed that day -- they didn't open until 9am but he promised to call back.

Just before 9am, Rocky called me back and said his installers would arrive just before lunchtiem that day. They did with a brand new American Standard Freedom 95V, a new humidfier, an air filter and a thermostat to boot.

Due to the tight space in my furnace room, it took them 6.5 hours to install the new furnace -- purely due to logistics. They didn't cut corners, they didn't even go for lunch. My wife fed them a couple of cups of tea to keep them warm and the plugged away.

Cons:
- They didn't speak the best of English but were able to communicate with us.
- Due to my ducting being old, they had to use some tape to seal a few corners.

Pros:
- The American Standard unit they put in is virtually SILENT.
- Our heat is now within 0.5c of the themostat settings at all times, which is amazing to me (and I'm an engineer!)
- They took away all the old furnace parts -- they actually came back in a pickup truck to do that

I had made Rocky promise me the installation would be good as that's often more important than the brand/model of furnace you by. He actually did promise me and didn't let me down.

I didn't have the money to replace my A/C at the same time, but I'd definitely let them bid on the job to do that.

Marc/Markham.

Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Get quotes. Ask questions such as "will you provide a certificate of warranty? Do I have to subscribe to a service plan from you for the warranty to be valid?"

Furnace upgrade

I did not plan to upgrade my furnace before my energy auditor came, then I decide to upgrade my 20+ years old furnace as well persuaded by the auditor, knowing the government encourages the home-owners to do so by providing several rebate programs. After reviewing the top rated contractors on line and some top-line furnaces as recommended from consumer report, I finally locked on two brand and model “Bryan - 355AAV042060” and “American standard - AUH2B060A9V3VA”. The next step was to collect several quotes and finally signed the contract with Rocky Wang from “High Efficiency Cooling & Heating Inc.” as the other reviews said and I second that Rocky sat down with us and explained the costs, as well as the rebates we'd be eligible for, and the estimated savings in gas and electricity. He simply was willing and able to answer all my questions in detail. I chose this company because they are members of TSSA, HRAI and BBB and 5 years labour warranty without any precondition. But I was not sure at the time that they would be really delivering as they promised to. Within one week, the Installer MR. Li was sent in and he had spent a whole day from 10 to 7 in my furnace room and saw their jobs were nicely done in the end – which I heard he has tremendous experiences and he extremely professional and process-oriented. Mr. Li and his assistant even re-tape my existing duct and replace my old condensation drain and feed it into the condensation water pump with the new drain pipe. I definitely recommend to others and they will not let you down. Again thanks to Rocky and Mr. Li.

gas furnace installation

When Rick came over to give us an estimate on replacing our old gas furnace, I was immediately impressed with his professionalism. He surveyed the furnace room and pointed out what would be needed in order to replace our 27 year old furnace with a new high-efficiency one. He then sat down with me and explained the costs, as well as the rebates we'd be eligible for, and the estimated savings in gas and electricity. He was willing and able to answer all my questions in detail.
When the contractors came to install the furnace, they were also very professional and polite. They worked efficiently, and took care not to leave a mess. They were at times a little difficult to talk with as English wasn't a first language for them - but anyone with a little understanding and patience won't find this a problem.
After the furnace was installed, we noticed a new gurgling sound in the basement whenever the furnace was running. We explained this to Rick and he sent out a contractor within the week. The problem was simply that the inlet feed to the humidifier was turned up too high - turning it down removed the noise.
I would definitely recommend High Efficiency Cooling & Heating to any of my friends.
