Many companies like to talk about their values, principles and integrity. Sadly, when it comes to delivering on their promise, they either fall short or do “just enough”. I have rarely seen a company live up to their brand promise, and even more rarely surpass it. I am a tough critic and will not give a company a 10 just for showing up and doing what they said they would do – they need to go above and way beyond. Herb Lodde & Sons did just that.
In Dec, sadly my father passed away, - the next day, there was an awful thunderstorm and water started to drip into my mother’s living room. Most companies I called said they were not able to do anything until spring. When I called Herb Lodde & Sons, Ken, the Sales Rep, said he would come right over. He did explain the challenges of working in the cold, but felt they had a solution that would work in our case. He gave us a number of options on how to proceed. At the end, we agreed on his initial recommendation.
He cautioned that his quote was based on what he was able to see without removing the shingles, and that if the damage was bad, they would need to replace the plywood and insulation at an extra charge. Before leaving, and at no charge, Ken even offered to tarp tarped the bad section as to minimize any damage in the meantime. He carefully sealed all the edges and made sure that no more water came into the house, taking his time to make sure it was done right. When the crew showed up, they did a great job, were polite and respectful, and cleaned up after themselves when they were finished. They told my mom that other than the shingles, everything was sound and no additional work (or charges) were required. She was extremely pleased with the whole experience.
In the process of fixing the roof, however, they removed the satellite dish and somehow cracked it. I wasn’t surprised as the unit was very old. I called and left a message explaining the situation. The next day, the owner of the company came by to see the work for himself - and the dish. He was very apologetic and offered to pay for a new one. A week later someone from the company came by to clean my mom’s the chimney free of charge, as during the inspection, the owner saw that is was very dirty and dangerous. I believe it was his way to make things right about the dish.
I want to thank Herb Lodde & Sons for the kindness shown my mom during a difficult time. In addition to doing a great job, they treated us more than fairly, and with honesty and respect. I can’t recommend them highly enough.
