Chimney rebuild, window sill, brick replacement, tuck pointing

Rudy and Mike did a great job on our repairs - s mix of rebuilding a double flu chimney, tuck pointing another chimney, and tearing down a third chimney that was no longer used. As well, there was a rebuild of the bricks beneath a large window that had deteriorated badly, installing a new stome sill, and further brick replacement and tuck pointing.

In spite of variable weather, and a very busy work schedule (wasn't everyone trying to get things done this fall for the tax credit?) they completed the work in a timely manner and with fine workmanship. They were able to match the bricks very well - part of the house is 1950's, the rest 1970's - a better match than between the original work. Rudy was a pleasure to chat with when planning the work, and had a very progreesive view on his profession - always willing to learn something new and having a real passion for his work.

Chimney rebuild and other brick replacement

Rudy and company are great! Glenwood rebuilt a chimney on our 130yo brick house as well as replaced other damaged bricks in a number of spots. We are going to have them back to do some general spot repointing within the next year. Rudy is very positive, knowledgeable, and clearly likes what he does. Mortar and brick color were well matched and care was taken not to use incompatible materials (e.g. contemporary mortar and old bricks apparently can't be used together). We recommend Glenwood strongly and will use them whenever we need masonry work!

Brick Replacement

We closed a window and a door from the inside of the house and we needed to fill the gap left outside with bricks. Our house is 35 years old so it was impossible to find the exact matching brick. Rudy gave us a written estimate detailing all the work he was going to do. He said he couldn't match the bricks exactely but he'll do his best trying to match the texture. I didn't think it was going to look good but they really exceeded our expectations. The work they did on the bricks to imitate the texture of our old brick was really amazing. It was done brick by brick. Excellent craftmanship. They also cleaned up all the mess done in the patio where they were working. I would recomend this company 100%.

Two Chimney Rebuilds and Grind & Point Work

My house, built in the early 70's has two chimneys. They both were disintegrating from the top down to (approximately) mid height of the structures. Rudy explained in detail the full range of options available. I decided to knock down and rebuild all the rows (from the top down – 21 rows in total ) which showed broken / missing / deteriorating brick and mortar and also grind and point all the mortar joints below the chimney rebuilds to the roofline.
Rudy e-mailed me a detailed proposal / quote and various dates when he could do the job.
Rudy and his crew (Aaron and Jeff) arrived as scheduled and did a fabulous job. They used two different shades of brick in the rebuild to faultlessly match the look of the bricks below the rebuild and also matched the mortar color to blend in. The grind and point work looks very solid and provides me peace of mind. (If it were not for the grind and pointing I would forever be second guessing my decision to not do a total rebuild)
The guys cleaned up after themselves to the level of you would never know they were there. Simply put they did a great job. I recommend them highly. Thank you Rudy, Aaron and Jeff.

Chimney Rebuild

The bricks in our chimney were disintegrating. After obtaining a few quotes from different contractors we chose to work with Glenwood. Glenwood came highly recommended from our roofing company and while not the least expensive quote, Glenwood was competitive and provided a few options regarding how much work could be done. When they arrived, they were polite, efficient, neat, tidy, took evident pride in their work and finished the job in two days. Rudy was very pleased (as were we) that he was able to so closely match our house brick - an unusual multi-coloured brick. We are very happy with the end result and would recommend Glenwood to anyone.

Company Response

Evening MEB,
Thanks for the review.
The brick on your building was an old style of Ontario sized Aztec Brick. The sun and weather had over the years washed out most of the brighter colours. The old style Aztec didn’t have any blacks on them like the new ones do. Most masons avoid using these bricks to match – I don’t. The new Aztec brick has the darker green or blacks only on one end. The other end of the brick is either red or yellow or a blend of the two. The trick to making it match is to make sure the every dark end is turned in toward the chimney and not exposed to the outside.
I really enjoyed the challenge of making your chimney match the house.
Glad that you are happy.
Thanks,
Rudy

Company Response

Afternoon Ian,
It was a rainy start to the day but I am glad that we were able to complete your brick window infills.
Your brick no longer being produced made it difficult to match. We managed to pull off a good combination to making one of your windows smaller and completely filling in the other one. Toothing in of the new brick to the existing is the only acceptable practice for jobs like yours. Without that even a perfect match to the brick would stand out like a sore thumb.

Again love the Rouge Park Area – anytime.

Thanks,
Rudy

Chimney Rebuild

Called Rudy at Glenwood Masonry because of the positive reviews he received on this website. I was not disappointed! Rudy quickly responded to my request for a quote and (along with Mike) did an awesome repair job on a 50 year old chimney. He did all this on short notice and we were able to close a sale on our house because of his excellent work on the house. The work was excellent, with proper joints and mortar work. They cleaned up everything and left the worksite far far better than it was when they got there. The cost was more than fair and if I needed some other work done, I would definitely wait for him if Rudy (& Mike) was busy - there just aren't workers like him out there anymore!
