Purchased a new roof with Interlock, metal shingle, great crew

Assisted Review

An assisted review is collected by a contractor on behalf of the homeowner after their work is completed. The homeowner must confirm the text of the review and may make any changes she or he deems appropriate. The homeowner then assigns the contractor a review score out of 10. Assisted reviews receive the same scrutiny as other reviews and must follow our review guidelines.

John and his crew were fantastic. You can tell they enjoy their job and really work together as a true team, not just a bunch of guys thrown together for a job. They worked very hard whenever they were here and were very polite and friendly to us.
John and his entire crew made getting the installation of a new roof not as noisy and messy as we had feared it would. After having them put our roof on, our neighbours had a shingle roof installed, and watching the disorganization, mistakes and accidents they had with equipment made us very glad we went with Interlock and their well trained team of installers.

Eleazor Genge was the foreman of the team of roofing contractors supplied by Interlock Industries (Ont) Inc. to reroof our house at the address above. The job was started in 2011 and completed in 2012 and involved both the installation of a new aluminum sloped roof and a new flat roof covered by a heavy rubber membrane.

This job was very technical in that the roof was a complex series of dormers set on a steep pitch. There were numerous roof sections that required the metal shingles to be custom cut and several of these sections were curved which required much skill to execute properly.

We were more than impressed with the level of craftsmanship that Mr. Genge brought to the job. His careful attention to detail and his vast knowledge of carpentry and metal work provided us with an absolutely stunning end product. We feel extremely fortunate that Mr. Genge was the foreman provided on this job and we commend his services to anyone looking to complete this type of work.

Roof

I've had this roof for a number of years. It looks great and we have many comments about it ...BUT every winter ice forms in the valleys on the roof. It never slides off completely and builds up into huge, heavy chunks over time. At some point the chunks release and come hurtling off the roof damaging the 1st level roof below. They flip some of the tiles and bend them upwards on the way down. Every year I have to go up and bend these tiles back down. We had to move our entrance path because of the danger posed by these chunks of ice. The sliding ice and snow has destroyed our eavestrough and the flashing boots around the vent stacks allowing water into the attic space.

This roof is not suitable for a design with valleys in areas that get significant snowfalls and temperatures that fall well below zero. I'm not saying it's a bad roof but interlock must be aware of this problem and should not be recommending it for unsuitable applications.

I have called Interlock to arrange a service call to see what they would recommend. I never heard back from them. My neighbour has the same roof and also has valleys in his design. He has exactly the same problem as me.

Interlock roofing did a great job and I really like the looks of the new roof. I especially like the fact that the roof should look just as good years from now and that I'll never need to replace it again!

Interlock Industries - Angelo Ladas sold us an Interlock aluminum slate roof. The new appearances of our house and garage are stunning. The Interlock team of roofers were professional in their installation and clean-up. We have no hesitation in recommending Interlock shingles to anyone thinking of shingling their house.

aluminum roofing

This review is for work done by Interlock Industries (ONT) Inc based in Mississauga. I did A LOT of research on the material options (aluminum, metal, and asphalt shingles). I chose aluminum shingles mostly because I do not intend on selling my house and I do not want to re-roof again in retirement. Also, I am very skeptical about all roofing warranties so hopefully I will never need to refer to mine.
Dave provided a competitive quote and I liked the underlayment and aluminum shingle samples he showed me. I chose to have a ridge vent installed with snow guards and a skylight too. The work was to start and end within the month of April. I was told "Tony" will be the installer. I got a call informing me of the exact start date and when the date came, Tony worked from morning until evening almost everyday until he finished. Everyday, Tony did a satisfactory clean up around the house before he left. In my opinion, Tony is a very honest hardworking and skilled man. Look at the pictures to see his work.
I was skeptical about the ridge vent letting moisture and heat out but it seems to be working fine. The snow guards are doing their job too.
Overall, I would recommend aluminum roofing from this company. I like the look and the satisfaction of knowing that my shingles won't blow up during a major storm as my asphalt shingles did last summer. I really can't see how any water can penetrate the roof and I don't even hear the rain hitting the roof. Flashing appears to be done really well and very clean. My only recommendation would be for Tony to start teaching his skill to some new installers rather than doing everything himself.
Raccoons should have much difficultly walking up there and most surprisingly so far...the inside of my house seemed cooler during the summer. Everyone should at least ask for info and a quote.

What could this company do to improve their services?
My only recommendation would be for Tony to start teaching his skill to some new installers rather than doing everything himself. A little extra help on the job site.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
At the very least, call this company for a quote and see if its worthwhile for your house.

Company Response

Hello Smith,
Thanks for choosing Interlock after thoroughly researching.
Good to hear that Tony worked hard to deliver your project on time.

If you have any concern regarding the snow guards and the ridge vent, do not hesitate to contact us.

We really appreciate you mentioned how silent your roof is during the rain (some people still have the misconception that metal roofs are noisier).
Best regards, Carlos

Aluminum Roof

I am really happy that we went with an Interlock Aluminum roof. Our sales person Dave was extreemly knowledgeable and very curtious. Tony, our installer was a european craftsman giving us a top notch installation of the highest quality, quite naturally. There was no mess left behind when Tony had finished. The product looks very attractive. Installing aluminum makes a lot sense considering all of the roofing materials available. I love it when it rains now. There is a very soft pitter patter which is quieter than before. Also there is great comfort in knowing that the roof will do what is supposed to do now and for ever more. We are very satisfied customers who found that this is a good company to work with.

Hi Jeffis,

Dave and Tony are truly an important part of our team.

Many of our customers find the sound of the rain on the roof pleasing and calming... besides the peace of mind you also mentioned - knowing they are protected from the weather and won't have to worry about re-roofing in the future. Thank you very much for the great review.

Aluminum Roofing

My roof was completely covered with aluminum (copper slate style) shingles. They only had one roofer to complete the whole task. It took a few days to complete but it was completed properly. I would recommend asking how many roofers they will provide before settling on a price.
