Here are my problems with this company
1) They send subcontractors to do my job. I chose them thinking that I was getting a big company with a long standing reputation.
2) They did not start work on the day that they were supposed to. When I phoned to check what was going on they seemed surprised and had no idea that my job was to be done. They had given me a call earlier to confirm the start date so I figured there was no reason to be concerned..... until they didn't show up on that date.
3) I opted to have downpipe extensions and underlayment to cover the entire roof. The downpipes were never extended and the underlayment was not placed everywhere. If I had not come home from work one day and noticed that the shingles were going directly onto the wood I would have been none the wiser. Lesson learned watch them while they work. To be clear underlayment was put in some places but not in all places. This is a problem because I had requested for underlayment to be put everywhere (as per the contract).
4) During the skylight replacement our dining room floor received a 2 inch gash in the wood. Not covered by the contract. :(
5) They were slow to respond to e-mails and phone calls when I was displeased about the points above. Sometimes it took more than a week for a response.
8) Production manager failed to ensure that the job done was as per the contract. Made me wonder why I was paying for a production manager.
9) At one point I was arguing with the production manager and his general manager over what was to be done. I was willing to have them come back and fix the job. They refused to remove all shingles and do the job again so that I could be certain that underlayment was placed everywhere. The compromise was that they would cover the cost of a third party roof inspector of my choosing to a maximum of $500.
10) After speaking with two different home inspectors I was advised to offer to pay for only the work that was done and be done with the issue since the roof was done to code. The original job was quoted for 14K and the final adjusted price was 11K. This took two weeks to come to an agreement.
As a footnote: I paid them the full amount the day after that I received the final bill.
11) Oh I forgot that they also stated on the original contract that 10 vents should be installed. But they only installed 6. Another failure on the part of the production manager,
12) Workmanship was mediocre. A woven valley was used in one spot instead of a steel valley. That means this valley on the roof will not last as long since it is just overlapping shingles instead of a metal lining.
13) Clean up was not very good. Found broken shingles in the eaves troughs and in the garden.
All in all I was looking for a premium roof. They were happy to charge me for one but did very little to ensure that I was getting what I had paid for.
Dominion has a fairly large staff of office workers so that means their salaries/overhead is built into the cost.
Look elsewhere.
